The name comes from the fact that the key element of the design is the thermostat — a mechanism that automatically maintains the selected temperature. To do this, the tap automation constantly monitors the pressure and temperature of hot and cold water, and when any of these parameters changes, it makes appropriate adjustments to the operating mode so that the outlet water temperature remains unchanged. These options come at a price, but they are extremely user-friendly, especially with a bath or shower tap: just select a comfortable temperature and you can enjoy bathing without having to worry about adjusting the tap.
The specific design of the thermostatic tap will be different — depending on the purpose. So, models for the bath and/or shower are usually controlled by two rotary controls from the sides; one of them is responsible for temperature, the second for pressure. Washbasin fixtures can have one rotary button: turning the temperature is set, and pressing turns the water on and off (its pressure may not be regulated). It is also worth mentioning that in some sets from this category, only the shower and/or bath tap is equipped with a thermostat, while simpler fixtures (usually for a washbasin) may have a single lever design (see above). This allows you to somewhat reduce the cost, while maintaining the main advantage of "thermostats" — comfort when taking bath procedures.
