Percussion chisels

 

— chisels designed for use in combination with a mallet or other similar device. When working, such a tool usually goes deep into the material not due to hand pressure, but due to hitting the handle — hence the name.

Structurally, impact chisels differ from hand chisels primarily in a reinforced handle that can withstand the impact of a mallet without consequences. As for the application, this type of tool is less sensitive to the quality of sharpening, as well as more performant and better cope with hard materials. However the shock method of operation is less accurate; however, many chisels of this type, if necessary (primarily just where high accuracy is needed), can also be used as manual ones.
