— models that emit and receive a signal in a fairly narrow beam — up to 80 °, and often even less. This is the most long-range variety of modern antennas: beam narrowing allows you to get a “concentrated” signal that can propagate further than an omnidirectional one (and effectively receive a weak signal from a second device). The disadvantage of any directional antenna is its unsuitability for “mobile” use: such devices are designed to be permanently fixed in one place and accurately aimed at a second device. Their main application is point-to-point communication, for example, connecting a “home” 3G modem to a remote base station.
