This gold whistle first made history in 1883, when the London Metropolitan Police were looking for a portable noisemaker to replace the large wooden rattlers officers had to lug around. Between 1939 and 1945, the Metropolitan whistle was also issued to British officers serving in World War II, and this replica model is made in the same shop, using some of the tooling and dies that created the first versions.
