Glossary

Capacity

The maximum capacity is the maximum amount of laundry in kilograms that can be loaded into the machine for a wash cycle.

Max. spin speed

The final spin quality directly depends on the speed of rotation of the centrifuge of the washing machine. The higher the speed, the more intensively the laundry is spin out.

Drying capacity

The maximum amount of laundry that can be loaded into the washing machine for drying mode.

For more information about this mode, see "Dryer". The maximum load capacity is usually 1.5 to 2 times lower than for washing because of the differences in the process. It is important to note that the weight of the dry laundry is what is specified in the characteristics. Drying a full load of laundry at once may not be possible and may require drying in two stages. However, drying so many things at once is not frequently necessary and typically only a portion of the laundry needs to be dried in this manner.

Number of programmes

Modern washing machines offer various modes with customizable parameters such as water and detergent consumption, washing intensity, etc. These modes are designed for washing different types of fabrics and for quick washing. Having multiple programs is generally considered a positive feature, although some users may prefer to use the default mode if they are not familiar with the details of the other programs.

Spin class

The residual moisture level in laundry is typically classified with a letter of the alphabet, with A being the highest class indicating the lowest residual moisture. As the classification decreases in alphabetical order, such as to B and so on, the residual moisture level increases.

Controls

Rotary knob + buttons. In these models, the primary rotary knob is used to select the program, while additional knobs can be used to adjust individual parameters such as water temperature and spin speed. Other functions and settings are controlled through buttons. This type of control system is both functional and inexpensive, which led to its popularity.

Rotary knob + sensor. This type of control system combines a rotary knob with a touch panel. The knob is used to select the main program, while the touch panel is used for additional functions and parameters. While this control system is more expensive than the "knob + buttons" combination (see above), it offers a stylish and technological appearance. Additionally, some users find it more convenient since it requires no effort to press, and the touch panel is easier to clean than buttons.

Noise level (spin)

The noise level of the washing machine during operation is an important factor to consider, especially in situations where excessive noise can be disruptive or undesirable. The lower the noise level is preferred, as it provide a more comfortable user experience. This is particularly relevant for small apartments or households with young children, or if washing is planned during nighttime hours.

The noise level of a washing machine may vary depending on the mode of operation, with some models being louder when spinning at maximum speed. Additionally, the noise level may be influenced by the installation conditions and the proximity of other objects or furniture. Even a quiet machine may produce additional noise due to vibrations if it is installed unevenly or in contact with other objects.
