Shape

Bag. Bags can have different sizes, proportions and designs. However, they are all made of soft materials, the design has at least carrying handles, and often also a shoulder strap. Thanks to this, the bags are quite convenient both for transportation in the car and when transported by hand. In addition, items for cooking and eating are usually placed in the side pockets of the bag, and the central part of the bag remains free (see "Additional pocket"), which allows you to transport additional cargo in such a package — for example, the same products. There are also thermal bags that can keep cool inside for a long time (for more details, see "Heat Insulation"). Anyway, the shape is popular mainly among picnic sets (see "Destination").

Backpack. Backpacks are generally similar to the bags described above — with the adjustment for the fact that they are carried on the back, and not in the hands. In addition to the fact that such a carrier leaves hands free, its advantage is that a rather large bedding can be attached to the backpack (see below), which would be inconvenient when carried with a bag. Backpacks are found exclusively among picnic sets.

Suitcase. Here we are most often talking about traditional suitcases — flat rectangular boxes made of solid material that fold into two halves. At the same time, the...contents of the set are placed in loops sewn onto the inner walls of the suitcase. In general, among such packages, two main categories can be distinguished. The first is relatively inexpensive products designed for practicality and resistance to various “troubles”. Their contents, usually, are intended for barbecue, and the suitcases themselves are made of metal, or even plastic (see "Case Material"). These kits can be relatively expensive compared to other BBQ organizers and aprons (see below), but this is made up for by the strength, durability, and sealed packaging that makes it easy to store and move the kit. The second type of suitcases are products with leatherette or fabric upholstery, which gives the product a solid and rich appearance. Such packaging is found in premium picnic sets designed for outdoor driving rather than hiking. At the same time, the contents of the set, naturally, are not inferior in quality to the suitcase. Such kits belong to the premium class and are designed not only for their main purpose, but also to emphasize the status of the owner — especially since all this beauty is very expensive.

— Basket. Baskets have long been used to organize picnics; It was this kind of packaging that was very popular in the past and even the century before last, and it has not lost its relevance today. Modern baskets are usually made in a classic design, and sometimes in a “retro” style; vine remains one of the most popular materials for them. The design of such a package can be different: there are both classic baskets and products that look like chests and are carried like suitcases by the side handle (which becomes top when carried). From the point of view of the functionality of the basket, it does not have any special advantages over the same bags, and during transportation they are even less convenient — the handles are usually designed to be carried over short distances. So these sets are intended mainly for those who appreciate the classic style or natural materials and do not plan to travel far on foot. Barbecue baskets are not used.

— Organizer. A kind of packaging, quite popular among barbecue kits. The organizer is a piece of thick dense fabric, on one side of which loops are sewn for attaching various items. During storage and transportation, such a product is folded or folded so that the contents are inside, and when used, it unfolds, and all the tools are at the disposal of the user. In this way it is convenient to pack oblong objects of small thickness, and most barbecue tools are just that. But organizers are not suitable for tableware; that is why they are practically not found among picnic sets.

— Apron. A rather original type of packaging, which is a dense kitchen apron with pockets sewn on it in front, in which various cooking tools are placed. Thanks to this, the entire “arsenal” can be carried on oneself, and all items will be literally at hand. In addition, such "clothing" covers the front of the user, protecting his main clothing from splashes, soot and other contaminants that occur during cooking. But in transportation, aprons are not very convenient; therefore, such a kit should be purchased either for traveling by car, or for organizing "gatherings" in the yard of your own house. In this form, only barbecue sets are produced.

Number of persons

The number of people for which the set is designed. A set for several people (the most common for 4 and 6 people) includes the appropriate number of individual items for eating — forks, plates, glasses, etc. At the same time, nothing prevents using it for a smaller number of people — the main thing is that there is enough for everyone. On the other hand, sets are too extensive and expensive; this must be taken into account when buying. For romantic meetings, sets for 2 or 3 persons are quite enough.

The number of persons is indicated mainly in picnic sets (see "Destination") — this is due to their specifics. In barbecue sets, this information is provided if the set includes food items — usually a fork and a steak knife. Note that among such sets there are options “for a bachelor” — with a set of devices for just one person.

Material

The material from which the body of the kit is made — more precisely, the packaging in which it is regularly used (and often supplied). For the types of such packages, see "Form", the materials can be as follows:

— Polyester. Synthetic fibre fabric, very popular as a "tourist" material: many bags and backpacks are made from it, including the vast majority of bags and backpacks in picnic or barbecue sets. Polyester is also used in most aprons and organizers. The fabric in this case is usually made quite thick and durable, often it has water-repellent properties (although it still gets wet after a certain time of exposure to water) and resists ultraviolet radiation well, so that the products endure exposure to the sun without any special consequences. In addition, various tricks can be provided in weaving that further increase reliability — for example, the “rip-stop” technology, due to which holes and cuts on such a fabric do not diverge and do not increase in size.

— Nylon. Another material used in "tourist" fabrics. In many ways, it is similar to the polyester described above, however, for a number of reasons, it has not received much distribution among picnic / barbecue sets. One of these reasons is the tendency to fade and lose strength when exposed to ultraviolet light.

— Linen. Natural linen fabric is quite strong and reliable, whil...e it is pleasant to the touch, looks good and is appreciated by lovers of natural materials. At the same time, in terms of practical properties, linen does not have any special advantages over the same polyester (moreover, it is noticeably inferior in some characteristics), but such a fabric costs much more. Because of this, this option is extremely rare, mainly among “designer” sets, in which linen is used mainly for aesthetic (and sometimes “ideological”, “environmental”) reasons.

— Metal. A fairly common option for suitcases, which is primarily due to the high strength and hardness of this material. Usually, under the metal in this case is meant an aluminium alloy. Such a suitcase perfectly protects the contents from various “troubles”, does not let water through and can withstand even quite strong pressure. At the same time, aluminium itself is resistant to corrosion, damage and scratches, and its weight is relatively small. The disadvantage of metal cases can be called a rather high cost, but in this case it is a “necessary evil”, and modern suitcases with picnic/barbecue sets are usually made of metal.

— Kozhzam. A specific variant found in some suitcases is mainly fashion-level models, designed not only for functionality, but also for a rich appearance. Actually, leatherette is just used as an external finish, providing the product with the appropriate “appearance”; under such material hides a body made of hard material such as plastic, wood or aluminium. From a practical point of view, such a finish does not provide any advantages over the traditional metal case, besides, it is more delicate — it is easy to tear or scratch leatherette. So, first of all, it is worth buying such a suitcase for those for whom an exquisite appearance is no less important than practicality in the bosom of nature.

— Vine. The traditional material for baskets, used, in fact, only for them. Such products have an interesting and attractive appearance, they look like classic picnic baskets and, when used for their main purpose, they also play the role of a stylish accessory. Note that the vine can be both natural and artificial; the second variety is considered not as high quality, but it is cheaper.

— Plastic. Solid material, suitable primarily for suitcases. The main advantage of plastic can be called a lower cost than metal; Yes, and these products usually weigh less. At the same time, plastic is noticeably inferior to metal in terms of strength, which is why it is not particularly popular.
