The main methods of such fixation are
suction cup,
air duct grille and
adhesive surface. Rarer options -
dashboard and
headrest,
handlebars of a bicycle or motorcycle,
custom mounts. There are devices that combine several options at once - for example, a suction cup and a grille with a clamp. At the same time, in some models, different types of fasteners are initially included in the kit, in others, the method of fixation depends on the modification; these nuances should be clarified when choosing. As for the features of each of the individual types of mounts, they are as follows:
- Suction cup. The suction cup allows you to mount the device on a dashboard, windscreen or any other relatively flat surface. At the same time, unlike a sticker, such a mount is reusable. On the other hand, suction cups are generally less reliable, and on rough and textured surfaces they stick poorly, if not at all.
- On the air duct grille. Mounting on the air duct grille with a clamp. The most popular mounting method, widely used both individually and in combination with other options. This is due to the fact that clamps are simple and at the same time
...very reliable, moreover, they can be used an unlimited number of times; and air ducts are found on almost any dashboard, and they are usually located conveniently enough for the use of holders.
- Adhesive surface. Fastening with a special adhesive pad is similar to installation on double-sided tape (only in this case, the “adhesive tape” is initially attached to the device body, and before installation, it is enough to remove the protective film on the adhesive surface). This type of attachment is suitable for both completely smooth and embossed surfaces, it is stronger than suction cups, but it is disposable - it is not easy to remove the installed device, and the fastener itself usually does not require reuse. Therefore, such clamps are rarely used in their pure form - most often they are provided as a spare (or alternative) option for mounting on the grille.
- Dashboard. The holder is attached to the dashboard elements in the car interior using a special clamp that can adapt to different surface thicknesses. A striking example of the use of such fasteners is the placement of a smartphone on the characteristic arc of the “tidy” in the area behind the wheel.
- Headrest. A convenient option for mounting a smartphone or even a tablet for passengers in the back seat of the vehicle. As a rule, such holders have two "paws" with adjustable extension in width, which cling to the headrest pins. The second option for implementing fasteners is fixing on the headrest with Velcro or a strap.
- Handlebars. Mounting on the handlebars of a bicycle, motorcycle or other similar vehicle. The basis of such fasteners is usually a clamp ring, put on the steering wheel tube and tightly fixed on it.
- Non-standard. Fasteners that do not fall under the standard common types of fasteners. In particular, these include models with a car radio installed in a CD slot, in a cup holder, with a clamp mount, etc.
