Smart Auto - easy framing and shooting
Easy photography is guaranteed by Smart Auto with Scene Recognition technology, which automatically detects shooting conditions and applies the best settings for great images.
The PowerShot A490 automatically recognizes up to 13 different scenes, giving great results when photographing on a sunny day or at night, or when shooting a subject at close range. Thanks to the Smart Auto mode, the user does not have to worry about image settings, which makes photographing much easier.

Intelligent Contrast Correction (i-Contrast) technology detects difficult lighting conditions to display brighter or darker areas in detail. The Smart Flash Exposure function automatically changes the flash levels according to the characteristics of the subject and photographic conditions. For example, during the day, Smart Flash Exposure detects and eliminates facial shadows caused by bright sunlight, while automatic flash firing ensures excellent shooting results.
Face detection technology makes it easy to take great group photos, track multiple faces, and ensure exposure, naturalness, and focus levels are just what you need. The red-eye reduction function detects this effect and removes it after taking the picture, thus ensuring the quality of images of friends and family.

Smart Auto Mode
Smart Auto uses Scene Recognition technology that determines shooting settings by analyzing in detail the brightness and contrast of the subject, the distance between the subject and the camera, and the general background. The camera then selects the most appropriate scene type from 13 options and applies the best settings to ensure the best results. In Smart Auto mode, the LCD screen displays a coloured icon according to the type of scene and lighting conditions. Smart Auto also includes an intelligent contrast correction system (i-Contrast), which ensures that bright and dark areas are rendered in detail.
