Confident work at high ISO. Wide dynamic range of the image. 5-axis matrix image stabilization system. In-camera 4K video recording in XAVC S format at bit rates up to 100 Mbps. Tilt screen with touch control.

The second phenomenon is a full-frame mirrorless camera with a Sensitivity prefix (sensitivity), in which the main bet is made on improved work with high ISO (100-102400 units in normal mode and 50-409600 units when expanding the range by hardware). The total resolution of the Sony A7s II matrix is 12.2 MP, respectively, each individual pixel is able to absorb more light, which is designed to improve picture quality when shooting in low light conditions.

A key innovation in the second generation of mirrorless was the introduction of a 5-axis matrix image stabilization system. The built-in stub also assists in obtaining smooth video footage, in which the camera also succeeded — it is highly regarded by a number of videographers for supporting 4K video recording in XAVC S format at 60 or 100 Mbps directly to a high-speed memory card. The mirrorless is also armed with a touch screen, an electronic viewfinder with a coverage of 100% of the field of the future frame, and Wi-Fi and NFC wireless modules.

Video reviews

"Eska" in the second generation of a series of full-frame mirrorless Sony Alpha 7 is, in fact, a unique camera that has no direct competitors among colleagues in the shop. It has practically no equal in the width of the dynamic range of the image and when working at high ISO, especially in matters of video shooting.

Extended ISO range

The secret to a mirrorless camera's performance at ISO speeds that others can't reach is the use of a full-frame image sensor with a resolution of 12.2 MP. Each individual pixel in this matrix is much larger than usual and absorbs more light, which leads to low-noise results when shooting at high ISOs. The native sensitivity range of the matrix is measured in the range from 100 to 102400 units, it can be extended by software to ISO 50-409600. In fact, the camera distinguishes hitherto invisible objects in the frame almost in complete darkness.

Video capabilities

The second strong trump card in the model’s sleeve is video shooting at the “Pro” level. The mirrorless camera supports recording 4K videos in XAVC S format with a bit rate of up to 100 Mbps directly to a high-speed memory card. The predecessor model in the face of Sone A7s could only do this with an external recorder. Assisting in smooth footage is a 5-axis matrix stub that helps compensate for over 4 stops of exposure.

Onboard equipment

The model is assembled in a dust- and moisture-proof case, the on-board equipment of which provides an OLED viewfinder with a magnification of 0.78x, an inclined screen with touch control, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and NFC wireless communication modules. Only a short battery life slightly spoils the impression of the camera, but by the standards of mirrorless cameras, the Sony A7s II demonstrates very average performance “according to the ward”. It is paired with NP-FW50 series rechargeable batteries.
