Redecorating

The mid-range Galaxy A line has become a bestseller, so it is not surprising that the Koreans decided to dig deep and released several modifications with the “S” index. Unlike the regular Galaxy A50, the updated version received a more powerful processor (Exynos 9611 instead of Exynos 9610), more RAM (6 GB instead of 4) and a redesigned camera, with a 48 MP main sensor, not 26 MP. If the old horse did not spoil the furrow and confidently coped with any everyday tasks, then the new product is already closer to the top level in terms of performance. Especially when it comes to simultaneously running applications and a million open tabs in the browser. And the stock of 6 GB of RAM allows you to count on the same performance in a year or two.

triple camera

If there are no questions about upgrading the hardware, then the camera cannot be said to have become better — reducing the aperture ratio of the main module from f / 1.7 to f / 2.0 negatively affected shooting in poor lighting. Although, it would be somewhat naive to demand night photos of the Huawei P30 Pro level from a middle-class smartphone. But during the day, the photos of the new A50s are a little clearer and more detailed. Plus, the blur quality has improved.

High quality Super AMOLED display

The Galaxy A50 had one of the best displays in its class, and Samsung didn't change a thing here. In the A50s, we have the same 6.4-inch Super AMOLED screen with the flagship 86% display-to-body ratio and FullHD+ resolution. The set of “everything else” also remained unchanged: here you have a modern USB-C port, a capacious 4000 mAh battery with fast charging, an NFC module and Wi-Fi with Bluetooth of the fifth version and a slot for a memory card. The fingerprint scanner of the smartphone is built into the screen according to all the precepts of fashion, although the speed of its work leaves much to be desired, like that of its predecessor.

Nothing extra

Considering all the improvements, the $40 price increase over the Galaxy A50 seems to be justified. It's a great mid-range smartphone for those who don't want the extra performance and feature-clutter of $700-$800 high-end smartphones. You can blame here only a completely plastic case, as in low-cost models. All the same, in this class it is more common to see a combination of metal and glass.
