One of the most affordable models of Gigabyte X570 UD motherboards based on the top AMD X570 chipset of 2019. The manufacturer is positioned as a product of the middle price category, designed to create universal performant household and gaming systems of the middle and upper levels. It can become a reliable basis for an inexpensive workstation. Compatible with 2nd and 3rd generation Ryzen 3/5/7/9 CPUs with Matisse/Picasso/Pinnacle Ridge cores.

Unlike motherboards of 2018 based on the X470 chipset, this model has a new version of the high-speed PCIe Gen4 system interface. It is backwards compatible with Gen3 but delivers up to 2x the data transfer speed, which is especially important when connecting fast M.2 SSDs. The Gigabyte X570 UD motherboard is equipped with a powerful 12-phase (10+2) CPU power subsystem with aluminium heatsinks, which can handle continuous heavy loads. Overclocking CPU, RAM and fine manual tuning of non-standard modes of equipment operation are supported. There are four slots for installing DIMM modules with a total capacity of 128 GB (4x32 GB), which is quite enough to solve any household and professional tasks.

Decent budget board on the X570 chipset, I recommend it.
26 November 2019
One of the most budget-friendly and accessible motherboards on the x570 chipset, yet in terms of capabilities and features, it hardly lags behind more expensive models. I got it for the Ryzen 5 3600X processor, it started right out of the box, and the BIOS supports all 3rd generation Ryzen CPUs. It runs in standard mode, no overclocking done as I'm waiting for a new cooler. The CPU power system follows a 10+2 phase scheme, which can handle overclocking the 3600X without overheating the VRM area. It has good, massive heatsinks on the MOSFETs, with an 8-pin connector for CPU power. The chipset has additional cooling with an active cooler, which is normal for motherboards on the X570 chipset as it heats up considerably.

Also, I'd like to point out the presence of PCI Express version 4.0, which is a distinctive feature of the 570 chipset. Be careful – PCI Express 4.0 only works when installing 3rd generation Ryzens; with the 1st and 2nd, the slots operate as 3.0.

Regarding sound, there's not much to say – the Realtek ALC887 handles it just fine, more than enough for my speakers and headphones, the sound is clear, nothing is ripping, and it’s loud. The back panel has a few connectors, just the necessary minimum: HDMI, 6 USB, 1 LAN, 3 audio. However, there's only one M.2 slot for SSDs, I installed a Corsair Force MP510 with 240GB for the system, it works at the declared speed in PCIe x4 mode, everything is very fast. The BIOS is generally convenient, standard stuff, offering all the capabilities for overclocking.

Overall, for its price, the board is quite decent. If you are getting a 3rd generation CPU and need an inexpensive board with good features, confidently go for the Gigabyte X570 UD.
Power subsystem for the CPU, with room for overclocking
Good cooling of motherboard components
Convenient BIOS, supports 3rd generation Ryzen out of the box
Support for PCI Express version 4.0
Price
1 M.2 slot, which might not be enough for some
Modest package contents: a rear panel cover and a pair of SATA cables. That's basically it.

Simple but powerful

The Gigabyte X570 UD is a very interesting solution for building a home gaming system with an AMD Ryzen 3000 processor. Especially if you don't want to overpay for the various bonuses of flagship motherboards, but want to get a more affordable model on a top-end chipset with a good set of features.

All you need

In the arsenal of the Gigabyte X570 UD you will not find wireless interfaces, fashionable design and LED backlighting, but you will get everything you need for normal everyday use: four DIMM slots with support for fast modules, an M.2 Socket 3 interface for high-speed storage, a reinforced PCI- E 4.0 for the graphics card, efficient power supply (10+2 phases) and cooling subsystems, reinforced power connectors and much more. Separately, I would like to praise the successful placement of elements on the board. First, the main PEG port is noticeably far from the processor socket. As a result, the Gigabyte X570 UD will allow you to install any, even the largest air cooler. We can also install RAM modules without any problems without removing the graphics card.

Will pull 8-core Ryzen 7 Matisse 3700X

In tests, the Gigabyte X570 UD turned out to be an extremely stable small one, which can make a strong bond with near-top Ryzen chips. That is, this is quite a candidate for the role of the brain in a powerful gaming PC with a Ryzen 7 Matisse 3700X and a Radeon RX 5700. Well, here you can only find fault with trifles like a low-cost audio codec and a network controller or equipping DIMM slots with latches on both sides. However, all these are forced measures taken by Gigabyte in order to reduce the cost of the board.
