From the press release:

Canon announces the launch of the PowerShot S90 camera, marking the return of Canon's PowerShot S series. The PowerShot S90 continues the tradition of the PowerShot S series. Impressive performance allows you to take photos of exceptional quality. These features include Canon's Dual Noise Reduction, an f/2.0 wide-angle lens, a 3.0-inch PureColor II LCD screen, and a lens-mounted control ring.

The PowerShot S90 features a dual noise reduction system that combines a high-sensitivity 10.0-megapixel sensor with Canon's DIGIC 4 processor to capture full-resolution shots even in challenging lighting conditions. The dual noise reduction system makes it possible to get the most out of the available lighting and significantly reduce the noise level in the image. This is particularly useful in low-light portraiture and landscape photography where photographers need to capture high-quality, full-resolution images even at ISO 3200. DIGIC 4 also features i-Contrast, an advanced intelligent contrast correction technology that expands the dynamic range to help prevent loss of detail in the shadows and the appearance of overexposed spots.

Benefits of f/2.0 aperture
Canon has equipped the PowerShot S90 with a wide f/2.0 wide-angle lens to take full advantage of the dual noise reduction system. An f/2.0 wide-angle lens lets in twice as much light as a regular f/2.8 lens, allowing you to use faster shutter speeds, thereby preventing blur or achieving a shallower depth of field. Canon Image Stabilizer with a movable lens group compensates for camera shake and fights blur. As a result, the photographer gets a fourfold advantage compared to cameras that are less resistant to vibrations.

The PowerShot S90 features a 3.0-inch LCD screen with Canon PureColor II technology. It makes framing and reviewing images easy with an exceptionally wide viewing angle, 461K-dot resolution, and superb colour reproduction.

Control ring on the lens
Camera settings can be changed by simply rotating the control ring located on the lens left and right. This ring can be used as a manual zoom emulator, allowing you to zoom in on objects in increments of 28, 35, 50, 85 and 105mm. Additional settings can be assigned to the control ring, such as ISO (in 1/3-stop increments), shutter speed, aperture, focus, and exposure compensation, giving the photographer a sense of complete control over the shooting process. The lens ring also makes it easier to interact with the camera, allowing fast, precise scrolling through menus, functions, and shots taken. In the new Nostalgic mode, the ring can be used to control the aging effect of a photo, from slight fading to grainy black and white.

Advanced Scene Recognition Technology
The camera owner can use the scene selection (SCN on the control ring) to apply the most appropriate shooting settings. This is perfect for applying creative effects or when shooting in difficult lighting conditions. The new Low Light mode allows you to take pictures with a resolution down to 2.5 MP in very dark scenes at ISO 12800 and at 2.4 frames per second.

A wide range of creative shooting modes are also available, including aperture priority, shutter priority, auto exposure, programme AE, manual and custom modes. Selecting and using settings is made easier with an improved menu system that guides you through most features and options.

The PowerShot S90 allows you to fine-tune your white balance by compensating for lighting from various types of incandescent lamps, fluorescent lamps, and more. You can take great photos in any environment.

Smart Auto mode with scene recognition function is designed for comfortable and fast shooting. The camera selects the optimal settings from 22 options. This is an perfect solution for those who like to take pictures without getting into technical details. Smart Auto mode detects people's movements and activates the Continuous AF/AE function. Thanks to this, the user can be sure that the selected subject will be shot in focus and with the correct exposure.

This compact digital camera allows you to create RAW images supported by Canon's Digital Photo Professional (DPP) software, making them easy to work with. Another advantage of the model is the presence of an HDMI connector, which allows you to connect it to compatible TVs using an optionally purchased cable.
