Quite an interesting variation on the theme of the original PlayStation 3. On the one hand, the new console has lost a memory card slot and half of the USB ports (Slim has 2 of them). On the other hand, the volume of the built-in storage has increased to 120 GB (in the minimum configuration), and power consumption has decreased by 30% with the same hardware basis: 8-core processor with 3.2 GB, 256 MB of RAM and a Blu-ray drive. Wi-Fi and Bluetooth, integration with the PlayStation Network and even the installation of additional software from the PlayStation Store.

To make the new PS3 system thinner and lighter, the internal architecture has been completely redesigned, from the semiconductor materials used and the power supply to the cooling mechanism. Compared to the very first PS3 model with a 60 GB HDD, the internal volume, as well as the thickness and weight of the console, have decreased by about one third. Moreover, the power consumption has also been reduced by a third, which has reduced the noise level during the operation of the fan.
