Compact and stylish motherboard from Biostar from the Racing series, whose products are mostly aimed at gamers and overclocking enthusiasts. It stands out due to the original visual design, it will look great in a case with an open viewing window. Due to its compact form factor (mini-ITX format, dimensions 170x170 mm) it is the best choice for medium-power gaming builds assembled in a compact case designed for regular carrying. The Biostar B660GTN power subsystem is built according to a nine-phase scheme based on reliable solid capacitors and case chokes. Works under control of system logic of the middle class Intel B660. To install the processor, a proprietary LGA 1700 socket is provided, which Intel brought to the market in 2021. Supports installation of processors with standard and hybr...id cores from the 12th and 13th generation Intel Core, Celeron and Pentium families (codenamed Alder Lake and Raptor Lake). Next to the processor socket there are two slots for RAM, in which you can install two DDR4 modules with a maximum clock frequency of 5000 MHz and a total capacity of up to 64 GB. The ability to connect drives is provided by the presence of two M.2 slots (one on the front panel, the second on the back), capable of exchanging information using the high-speed PCI-E 4.0 bus. Working as part of a gaming computer, such an M.2 SSD is capable of operating at speeds of 5000 MB / s, significantly increasing the speed of loading game textures from RAM to the video card memory. Alternatively, the board has 4 standard SATA3 connectors for more traditional drives (3.5" HDD or 2.5" SSD). In addition, the board is equipped with a 2.5GbE LAN port from Realtek, HDMI and DisplayPort video outputs for connecting a monitor to a video card built into the processor, an eight-channel (7.1) sound system with the Realtek ALC1220 codec, as well as proprietary Rock Zone RGB lighting.

Build a mini PC

The Biostar B660GTN is the most compact Mini-ITX motherboard with an LGA 1700 socket. It has a number of limitations caused by the form factor (only two RAM slots, no PCIe x1), but otherwise it is quite richly equipped. In addition to heatsinks on both knees of the VRM, there is also a decorative casing for the interface panel and a paired heatsink for the chipset and the first M.2 SSD slot with PCIe 4.0 x4 support.

Double sided layout

The second similar slot is located on the back of the PCB, so you need to install a solid state drive there before mounting it in a PC case. The frequency of RAM is claimed up to 5000 MHz, this is really the ceiling of DDR4 capabilities, and only in Gear 2 asynchronous mode. The PCIe x16 slot is reinforced with steel to protect against fracture by a weighty discrete graphics card.

Wireless Internet

The audio path is built on the basis of the already more advanced Realtek ALC1220 codec, and wired Internet is represented by Realtek RTL8125B at a speed of 2.5 Gbps. In addition, there is an M.2 Key-E connector, immediately with antennas removed, for a Wi-Fi adapter, but it will have to be purchased separately. There are also two video outputs, but both are digital: DisplayPort and HDMI 2.0, with the ability to connect 4K monitors.
