Economy class ticket

Biostar B550MH is the most affordable high speed PCI-E 4.0 motherboard. Made in a medium-sized Micro-ATX format and built on the AMD B550 chipset. Compatible with the Ryzen 3000 (excluding 3200G and 3400G models) and Ryzen 4000 processor lines, and will probably receive a BIOS update for the Ryzen 5000 in the future. The processor power subsystem is made 8-phase (most likely 6 + 2).

Fast graphics card and disk

The PCI-E 4.0 layout on the Biostar B550MH received a graphics card slot and a connector for an M.2 SSD (64 Gbps), which work through a processor controller. If support for PCI-E 4.0 is also required for other slots, then you should take a closer look at motherboards based on the older AMD X570 chipset, such as the Biostar X570GT. There are two DIMM DDR4 RAM slots available with overclocking to 4933 MHz on Ryzen 4000 processors. But on the Ryzen 3000, it will not work to conquer the mark above 3866 MHz.

Overclocking for beginners

You can also overclock the processor on the Biostar B550MH, but the lack of heatsinks on the VRM is unlikely to achieve overclocking records. And if you definitely don’t plan to experiment with overclocking, then you can save money by choosing a motherboard based on the younger AMD A520 chipset, for example, the Biostar A520MH. The built-in 7.1-channel audio and gigabit network controller are represented by Realtek ALC887 and RTL8111H chips, respectively.

Variety of ports

On the rear interface panel there was a place for six USB ports (four versions 3.0 and a couple more 2.0), as well as two video outputs: analogue VGA and digital HDMI. In general, the Biostar B550MH is a smartly made low-cost motherboard that has all the necessary slots and ports, with the exception of USB 3.2 Gen 2 (10 Gbps), and at the same time there are no unnecessary “cosmetics” like RGB — backlights.
