This means that all games actually run on the PS5, and the Portal simply streams them by showing the picture from the PS5 and transmitting the controller inputs back to the console. The Sony PlayStation Portal features an 8-inch Full HD display with a 60 Hz refresh rate and built-in controllers that fully replicate the functionality of the DualSense, including vibration and adaptive triggers.

This ensures the gaming experience is almost the same as when using a standard gamepad. PlayStation Portal is convenient in situations when the TV is occupied or when you want to play away from the console, for example, lying on the couch or bed. The main limitation is the need for a stable Wi-Fi connection. According to Sony, for the basic operation of the device, a Wi-Fi connection with data transfer speeds of at least 5 Mbps is required; however, the recommended speed should not be lower than 15 Mbps, as connection quality depends on the number of connected devices, the environment, distance from the Wi-Fi receiver, and other factors that could negatively affect streaming quality. Unlike the regular PS Portal, the Sony PlayStation Portal 30th Anniversary Limited Edition features a more classic design in the style of the first generations of PlayStation.
