The Sony logo on the appliances is a hallmark of a quality product that you can buy without fear. The Sony MDR-ZX770BN headphones are no exception.
Design and ergonomics
The model is offered in two colours: black and blue. Looks restrained, without frills. Sits on the head tightly and securely. The steel slider in the headband makes it easy to adjust the position of the cups, which, by the way, are also swivel.
Sound enhancers
The model turned out to be universal. This is a headset for telephone conversations, and wireless headphones with good sound throughout the entire frequency range of 8 – 22000 Hz. However using them right out of the box, you begin to doubt the sound. But that's only because the aptX codec is disabled by default. Turning it on is not easy, you have to dance “with a tambourine” for a couple of minutes. But then the sound quality improves noticeably, if, of course, your smartphone or laptop supports the aptX standard.
Taking care of its users, Sony has not ignored the numerous owners of Apple devices who listen to music in iTunes. Headphones support AAC format.
In addition to wireless connection, the MDR-ZX770BN can also be listened to via cable. Here it is removable, 1.2 m long, and comes with the kit. It is better to take it with you in case the battery runs out. And this will happen after 10 – 13 hours of listening with ANC turned on. On average, it will take 2 hours to charge.
As for the “noise reduction”, it is, to put it mildly, rather weak here. Removes ambient sounds only by 30 – 40%. For example, a loud conversation near is heard distinctly, albeit stifled, and a monotonous rumble does not disappear, but seems to be smoother. Noise canceling can be forcibly turned off, but every time the headphones are restarted, it will turn on automatically again.
Control
All connectors and regulators are located on the lower rims of the bowls, and when you get used to what is located where, you quickly navigate the controls. What do we have on board? Buttons: power on, switching modes "talk-pause-rewind", noise reduction; status indicator, volume control up to 100 dB, microUSB connectors for charging and mini-Jack for an audio cable. There is even a RESET in case the wireless connection hangs tightly.
In addition to Bluetooth, the model supports NFC, as indicated by the corresponding icon on the outside of the bowls. To ensure that the headphones serve properly, do not gather dust and do not lose their aesthetic appearance for a long time, they are supplied with a soft case with a cord.
With all the advantages and disadvantages of the Sony MDR-ZX770BN, they can be called very good in terms of sound quality, ergonomics and price (about 250 USD). But for those who expect really good noise reduction from headphones, and not just for show, it’s better to look for another model.
- 19 hours — with noise reduction off
- 24 hours — with noise reduction on and wired connection
