High-end 27" AHVA IPS WQHD gaming monitor with 144Hz refresh rate. Unlike models based on TN-matrices, Asus MG279Q has much more accurate and natural colour reproduction, increased detail and much larger comfortable viewing angles. Thus, the monitor can be safely recommended to professional gamers, amateurs and just home users who own fairly powerful gaming computers. The last note is important, since the high screen resolution of 2560x1440 requires the use of a top-end graphics card. The monitor uses a high-quality 8-bit AHVA IPS-matrix with Flicker-Free W-LED backlight. It provides a high pixel density of 109 ppi (42 pixels/cm) and 99% coverage of the sRGB colour space. In addition, the screen has an increased maximum brightness of 350 cd / m2, a standard static contrast ratio of 1000: 1...and really excellent viewing angles of 178 degrees. The matrix guarantees an average response time of 4 ms GtG, and this feature, together with AMD FreeSync technology, allows the monitor to show the fast movement typical of most fast-paced games clearly and smoothly, without blurring or tearing frames. The monitor is made in a modern design with a narrow frame, a weighty ergonomic stand allows you to fine-tune the position of the screen by: adjusting its height (0-150 mm), changing the angle of rotation around the vertical axis (-65…+65 degrees), tilting the screen (from -5 up to +20 degrees) and rotation with a change from traditional landscape orientation to portrait (Pivot function). There are two built-in full-range speakers 2x2 W RMS. For connection, there are two 2 x HDMI 1.4 connectors (with support for connecting gadgets via MHL), a mini Display Port 1.2 input and an additional Display Port 1.2 connector (the monitor is equipped with a mini Display Port -> Display Port cable).

All  specifications

The MG279Q is a great monitor for gamers with an IPS matrix, rather than the usual TN gaming solutions. At the same time, the matrix has a high refresh rate (144 Hz), which provides a clear image in dynamic games. Asus also has a number of special features for gamers, for example, including branded "chips".

FreeSync technology for maximum image clarity

The MG279Q, like other gaming monitors in 2015, has support for FreeSync technology. With its use, the screen refresh rate "adjusts" to the frame rate provided by the graphics card. Therefore, the image, even in dynamic scenes, is very smooth and devoid of breaks — the so-called screen tearing. If only the system coped with the load and ensured the supply of frames to the monitor. Those who have tried to play on a "fast" monitor with FreeSync have only positive impressions.

However, this technology has two "minuses". Firstly, its use increases the cost of the monitor. Secondly, FreeSync only works with new AMD Radeon graphics cards. This is not a minus of this monitor, but of this technology. Asus has a similar model that supports NVIDIA's similar G-Sync technology, the PG279Q.

Interesting "chips" for gamers

This model has "chips" that are used only in Asus monitors. So, in the centre of the screen, the crosshair of the sight in games can be displayed. There are several scope options to choose from. For example, this will come in handy if you will fire from a sniper rifle without wasting time "aiming" through the optics. And for those who play a lot of real-time strategy and MOBA, a timer will come in handy, which allows you to estimate how much time has passed since the beginning of the match (from 30 to 90 minutes). You can also use six ready-made sets of settings: for games (shooters, strategies and racing), watching movies, photos or websites. In addition, the Asus model is also safe for the eyes — it uses Flicker-free and Low Blue Light technologies, which also became a trend in 2015.

Good to know:

FreeSync Technology
FreeSync eliminates the tearing and stuttering that occurs between the graphics card's frame rate and the monitor's refresh rate. Thanks to this, gamers can see almost seamless and smooth motion at any high resolution in heavy games.
