Model overview based on user reviews
The Xiaomi Redmi 8 32 GB / 3 GB is a budget-friendly smartphone that excels in several key areas. Its standout feature is the impressive 5000 mAh battery, which offers exceptional longevity, allowing users to go several days on a single charge without gaming. The phone also boasts a good camera quality, particularly in the Indian version with the IMX 363 sensor, delivering excellent photos for its price range. Users appreciate the stylish design, with a shimmering body that gives it a premium look. Performance-wise, the phone runs smoothly for everyday tasks, although it may lag in high graphics games. It includes useful features like an IR port and separate slots for dual SIM cards and a memory card, enhancing its connectivity options. However, it lacks NFC, which could be a drawback for those who rely on contactless payments. Some users report issues with signal reception and find the body prone to smudges. Despite these minor drawbacks, the Xiaomi Redmi 8 offers great value with its robust battery life, decent camera, and attractive design, making it a solid choice for budget-conscious consumers.

A good smartphone for its money
4 April 2020
I've been using this phone for three months, everything's great, but 32GB is a bit insufficient, otherwise everything's fine. I installed a 32GB memory card, and it's enough. It runs games like PUBG comfortably and Asphalt runs at medium graphics.
The 5000 mAh battery is very good, my phone lasts for 1.5 days easily.

The phone is quite good for its price, but it's better to save up for a more expensive one.

The phone is not bad for its price segment. It is certainly not perfect, but it has its own advantages.
Huge battery reserve. A full battery charge lasts from early morning until late evening.
Endurance. I'm not sure if this can be counted as a plus, but still. After a year and a half of active use, the screen hasn't been damaged, there are no defects.
The camera for such a price is quite decent. With good lighting, you can get an excellent shot.
Processor. The phone sometimes lags significantly, and the only thing that helps is the popular method of "turning it off and on."

Image quality. In 2021, a resolution of 720p! It's just ridiculous. Even if you buy a phone from some market now, it would still have 1080p. But not here. In my opinion, this is a huge downside.

I suggest saving up for something better
19 November 2021
The phone is good for calls, chatting with friends, and scrolling through social media feeds, nothing more, nothing less. It is also worth noting the device's stability due to the large amount of RAM; even after a year of use, it doesn't freeze or lag. Let's call this model the benchmark of stability. This phone is not suitable for gaming. Initially, when purchasing, I expected to get a fairly powerful device that would delight me with vibrant images and stable frame rates, but no, I got an ordinary, unremarkable phone. I don't find it necessary to pay attention to this model, and if possible, go for a model from a higher price segment.
A large memory capacity of 64 GB, a large RAM of 4 GB. The device definitely won't freeze for a year. Good battery, lasts two days without charging, fast charging available, fingerprint sensor included, which is quite good for a budget option.
Very weak processor that can't handle games even on the lowest settings and resolution, lack of NFC module, terrible camera both front and main, poor quality back cover (slippery, fingerprints remain)

One of the best low-cost smartphones of the year

Somehow it so happened that not a single selection of smartphones is complete without models from Xiaomi. And they are almost always relatively inexpensive pipes that offer more than they ask for in return. This is especially true of the Redmi series, which has recently become a separate brand. However, the situation with the new Redmi 8 is not so clear: it is still an excellent low-cost-level smartphone with an interesting design and a reinforced 5000 mAh battery, but also a number of rather strange solutions.

Not without a fly in the ointment

Firstly, it is completely incomprehensible who in Xiaomi came up with the idea to use the Snapdragon 439 processor? If last year's Redmi 7 had a more performant Snapdragon 660. There was no increase in RAM either. Like last time, there is 3 GB, which, in our opinion, is enough for a low-cost smartphone. Wi-Fi 5 support has disappeared somewhere, although it was there a year ago. Well, the display resolution has decreased from 2340x1080 to 1520x720 pixels. The screen here is large (6.22"), so the graininess is quickly evident. In fairness, they ask for $ 20 – 30 less for the new product than for Redmi 7, so the deprivation is somewhat justified.

Reinforced battery and camera with Sony IMX363 sensor

If we abstract from comparisons with its predecessor, Redmi 8 turns out to be one of the most interesting smartphones in the sub-$150 category. Here you have a good supply of RAM, and separate slots for SIM and MicroSD cards, and the reinforced battery with fast charging mentioned above. And it is also a rare state employee whose camera is based on the Sony IMX363 sensor. For example, a year ago, Xiaomi used it in its Mi Mix 2s camera phone for $400. Yes, the level of photos here is by no means flagship, but many times better than low-cost smartphones a year ago.

Thoroughbred appearance

Let's highlight the design. Previous Redmis looked deliberately angular and were absolutely not shy about their origins. The new Redmi 8 is more reminiscent of the company's flagship models: the glass is slightly rounded, and the back cover shimmers beautifully under the light and looks really expensive. Especially in red. And right off the bat you won’t even understand that it’s plastic, not glass.
