Sony proprietary noise canceling

Sony has accumulated a wealth of experience in creating active noise canceling headphones, and its flagship models WH-1000XM2 and WH-1000XM3 are considered the industry's gold standard. It is not surprising that over time, the Japanese decided to release several intermediate models with the same cool “noise reduction”, but in general, simpler and cheaper. One of the first signs was the Sony WH-XB900N headphones.

Support for all popular codecs

At the same time, most of the legacy from older models has remained in place: here you have support for all popular Hi-Res codecs (AAC, aptX, aptX HD and LDAC), so they can be used with any smartphone, and active noise reduction (good, but not as cool as the WH-1000XM3), and NFC for quick pairing with an audio source. Well, do not forget about a well-made touch panel to control the player and a battery that lasts about 30 hours. The only disappointing thing here is the ergonomics. In terms of design, build quality and dimensions, the WH-XB900N almost completely repeats the WH-1000XM3, but the material of the ear pads has changed, which makes them hot.

Diaphragm bleeding

In terms of sound, the Sony WH-XB900N are quite good for wireless headphones. The sound here is smooth, detailed, with an emphasis on the detailing of mid frequencies, panning and naturalness of timbres. Naturally, there is an emphasis on bass — it is now difficult to sell headphones without it — and sometimes it is quite tangible, which makes you want to unscrew it to almost half of its original value. For some reason, this feature is more pronounced when listening to music via Bluetooth, regardless of the selected codec. But on the wire, the emphasis on bass was preserved, but not so dominant.
