Photos 17 | Outdated Product $4,475.36 up to $5,599.96 Flagship DSLR (February 2014), successor to the D4. The size and resolution of the matrix remained the same — full frame and 16 megapixels, respectively — but its sensitivity increased to ISO 25,600 in normal mode and a record ISO 409,600 in extended mode. At the same time, the shooting capabilities include a special system for processing scenes with complex lighting, in addition, it is worth noting the exposure metering system for 91K points. The processor is Expeed 4, its speed is enough for a series of 11 fps and Full HD video. Timelapse is supported up to 9999 frames. CF or XQD cards can be used to store footage, and the LAN interface can be used for transfer. The case is protected from dust and moisture. |

The D4S is at the top of Nikon's premium camera segment. It's hard to say something bad about the model, as it is purely professional and stuffed with various "goodies" to the eyeballs.
Megapixel balance
Unlike the younger 800 series (Nikon D800, Nikon D810), we will not find a matrix with some record number of megapixels on board the flagship. “Everything in moderation” is specifically about D4S. The full-frame sensor of the camera has a resolution of 16 megapixels, which is a normal balance — the race for megapixels is needed only in some genres of photography, and with the detailing of the flagship, everything is fine, even at this resolution.
Light sensitivity
The relatively large physical size of each individual pixel that makes up an image allows more light to be absorbed. It follows from this that the camera's strong point is shooting in low light. Raising the ISO to 51200 (an unattainable figure for most cameras), the picture in many cases will remain suitable for publishing on the Internet. In terms of light sensitivity, only the Sony Alpha A7S II mirrorless camera can compete with Nikon, but its element is video, not photos.
Focus system
The focus system of a full-frame camera has 51 points. This is not much, but she catches the shooting object in almost complete darkness, and also does not lose sight of it at the maximum burst speed (11 fps). With such a "monster" you can safely go to the night stage of Formula 1 in Singapore, you just need to buy a fast telephoto lens.
"Chips"
Usually top-end cameras are not endowed with any special "chips". But D4S has them. The camera is well able to shoot and stitch together high dynamic range (in other words, HDR) shots, and also has ample features and a huge variety of settings in interval and time-lapse shooting, i.e. in creating time-lapses.
Reference. Time-lapse photography is photographing an object from the same angle at certain intervals. The main purpose of this type of filming is to demonstrate slow processes. A distinctive feature from interval shooting is that with time-lapse shooting, all the captured photos are automatically collected into a video, while with interval shooting, all photos remain as separate shots.
