Traditionally for all "iPads", this device is a premium tablet - not a top-end at the time of release, but close to that. And it was released in 2017 as the successor to the iPad Air 2, while the company itself called the device “iPad” (apparently, in the expectation that the very first iPads had already completely left the scene). If we compare the Apple iPad 9.7 "New with its predecessor, then outwardly it has not received any special updates: the user has a 9.7" Retina display (2048x1536), a fingerprint scanner in the Home button, and an aluminium case (which, however, became a little thicker - "whole" 7.5 mm).
But the “heart” of the new device was the A9 chipset, which is almost 2 times superior in performance to the A8. By the volume of the built-in drive, this particular model is the older one, it holds an impressive 128 GB. Also, the rear camera did not receive any special changes; however, it's worth remembering here that this "no change" includes an 8-megapixel sensor, image stabilization, autofocus, and support for Full HD video recording.
