Excellent sports smartwatches from a Finnish company
25 November 2017
Truly cool gadgets don't come cheap. I was reminded of this when I was choosing a new smartwatch for myself. Chinese clones of branded models were immediately ruled out. While the Chinese have learned to make fitness bracelets, their watches still aren't trustworthy. Garmins were a decent option, but they have become quite mainstream. However, the true Finnish guys from Suunto really impressed me with their Spartan Ultra model. It's definitely not a cheap device, but I'm 9 out of 10 satisfied with it, which is a very high rating on my scale.
First of all, this device is truly multifunctional. However, for it to work correctly, it’s highly recommended to purchase a chest heart rate sensor. Yes, many manufacturers embed heart monitors directly into the watch, but it's really not the same thing. Trust me, I've tried both. With a chest sensor, you can assess the intensity of load in more than 20 types of activities. And this list continues to expand, as in four months I've already updated the watch’s firmware twice. This, by the way, is one of the key differences between serious brand models and Chinese knock-offs. Reputable brands continue to improve their products for years. Another important plus is the support for winter sports; I eagerly await the ski season and will happily hit the trails as soon as possible. Another important distinction of this specific model is the accurate navigation module. It works not only with GPS satellites but also understands GLONASS signals. As a result, the time required for positioning is reduced, and the precision of tracks and speed determination is increased. I chose the black variant. The case is durable metal, equipped with a convenient rubber strap that ensures a secure fit. The screen is quite large, touch-sensitive, with a resolution of 320 instead of 300 pixels. It is securely covered with ultra-durable sapphire glass. Charging is simple, with a magnetic attachment, taking about an hour. The autonomy is average – in normal mode, it's about 3-3.5 days, but active GPS/GLONASS use reduces it in...
The pedometer is available, but the only thing the watch does with its information is simply summing and displaying the number of steps over a period of time. No further processing or analysis. The compass needs to be calibrated suspiciously often. However, it takes no more than a minute, so I just ignore it for now.
normal model, nothing special

Yeah, truly cool watches, even a whole review for the entire lineup... The "popularness" of Garmin is determined by consumer trust, it's the same as the popularness of iPhone.
Stylish design, it seems that Suunto and Garmin have one designer for two ...
Not disappointed, but not impressed either.
