The cult model of monitor headphones Sony MDR-7505 has been the flagship in the niche for the third decade, competing for primacy with the no less eminent competitor Sennheiser HD 280 PRO. The updated Sony MDR-7510 is a step up in every way, making great monitor headphones better in every way — from sound and noise isolation, to quality materials and a comfortable fit. At the same time, the signature sound of the headphones crystallized even more strongly, they sound extremely honest and neutral even by the standards of more expensive models. The model can be safely recommended to owners of portable players and music smartphones, they sound in many ways better than any mass models like Beats. In terms of ergonomics, the headphones are generally good, although there are nuances. Among them...are vinyl ear pads, which are quickly erased from intensive use. But you can order new ones, as, indeed, almost any other part of the headphones. Thanks to good sound isolation, high volume, extreme overload capacity and special sound density, they allow monitoring in the most difficult conditions.

Video reviews

The Sony MDR-7510 headphones were released by the Japanese brand as a counterbalance to the flagships of the closest competitors: Beyerdynamic DT 770 PRO, Panasonic RP-HD10E, Audio-Technica ATH-MSR7. Which of them is better is up to the user to judge, but we'll just try to give an objective assessment of the MDR-7510.

Ergonomics and build

The model is positioned as a professional monitor. In terms of design, it is quite simple, without frills. It is made, neatly, mainly from plastic and leatherette, so it's ok to be careful in use. For storage and transportation, a soft case is offered in the kit, which will protect against dust and minor damage.

The design of the headphones is not foldable, but in terms of ergonomics and sound insulation it shows itself well. The cups sit comfortably, do not press, the ear pads are soft. The cable is non-detachable, 3 m long, twisted, with a threaded gold-plated adapter from mini to standard Jack 6.35 mm, in general, everything is as it should be in a studio model.

sound

But, the main thing in these headphones is, of course, the sound. Responsible for it are 50 mm neodymium drivers with a PET diaphragm (made of polyester plastic), a wide frequency range of 5 Hz - 40 kHz and a fairly accurate sound transmission. There is a slight drift into the low mids and bass, which makes it a little difficult to turn around the tops, but if you play around with equalization, you can achieve the necessary balance. The impedance of the 24 Ohm model allows you to fully open up on low-power portable devices, showing a sufficient volume level.

And yet, for a price of almost 200 USD, it was not possible to seriously compete with the above Sony MDR-7510 TOPs. Nevertheless, Sony is Sony, and fans of the brand, one way or another, will be satisfied with the acquisition.
