Two Interfaces to Choose From
While the M.2 connector is only found on the newest motherboards, PCIe slots are present on all motherboards without exception. Therefore, the HyperX Predator M.2 drive is sold both separately and bundled with a PCIe adapter. It's important to note that a compact PCIe x1 slot is not sufficient for its connection; a mid-size x4 or full-size x16 is required.
Faster Than SATA
For a long time, SSDs with the SATA III interface were limited to a speed of 600 MB/s, but M.2 and PCIe have eliminated this restriction. The linear read speed of the HyperX Predator, regardless of disk capacity, is 1400 MB/s, and the write speed for the 256 and 480 GB versions is 600 and 1000 MB/s respectively. Yes, it's not the fastest SSD in the world, but it's also not the most expensive, especially considering the extended package.
Gaming or Not?
While gaming headphones raise no questions, the term "gaming" SSD sounds strange. A "gaming" SSD cannot make gaming more comfortable compared to a "non-gaming" one. Nevertheless, HyperX actively supports and develops global eSports (sponsoring teams, organizing tournaments), so they have at least the moral right to call their products gaming.
In conclusion, we can recommend the Predator to those who already lack the speed of regular SATA drives but don't yet have a motherboard with an M.2 port, as well as eSports fans.
