Following the foldable Samsung Galaxy Fold, Huawei has made its contribution to the establishment of a new smartphone form factor. Its vision of a hybrid of a mobile phone and a tablet looks much more interesting. And here's why.
Tandem of independent screens
Huawei Mate X folds with the screens facing outwards. When folded , the front and back parts of the single screen can work independently, dividing into a 6.6-inch panel with a resolution of 2480x1148 pixels and a 6.39-inch panel with a resolution of 2480x892 pixels. On the side of the smaller display, there is a thickening in the case where the hardware "filling" is hidden. From it, a trio of cameras with Leica optics "looks" at the outside world.
Golden mean
In tablet format, the diagonal of the AMOLED screen of the device is exactly 8 inches, which is the "golden mean" in the genre of tablet computers. A display of this format is well suited for consuming multimedia content and working in multi-window mode. Chinese Huawei engineers managed to "pack" all this beauty into a case with a thickness of only 5.4 mm (in the unfolded form and without taking into account the thickening). But when looking at the unfolded screen at certain angles, irregularities in the central part may be noticeable due to the use of a complex folding mechanism.
High technology
In the hardware part, the gadget is based on a home-grown Kirin 980 chip from the category of uncompromising flagships and is equipped with 8/512 GB of memory. The volume of the internal storage is expanded with cards of the proprietary NM Card format. Power supply to the electronic components of the device is organized along energy threads sent from two batteries with a total capacity of 4500 mAh. They are charged by a 55-watt (!) power supply - from zero to 85%, the battery tanks are "filled" in just half an hour at the outlet. The only negative aftertaste is the sky-high price tag for the smartphone. However, here it should be understood that high technology a priori cannot be cheap.
