Swiss knife

In the low-cost laptop segment, everything is based on compromises. All the more interesting is the HP 17-by0000 model, which seems to be a kind of Swiss knife with a strong set of iron, a large margin of battery life and a bunch of useful little things that can help out in an unexpected situation.

The laptop has a 17-inch VA display with a resolution of 1600x900 pixels. The screen gives quite a colorful and clear picture, and thanks to the anti-reflective coating allows you to work in the fresh air.

No time for games

At the heart of the HP 17-by0000 is the new-generation Intel Pentium N5000 quad-core processor. Operating frequencies are only 1.1 GHz, but thanks to TurboBoost technology, they automatically accelerate to 2.7 GHz. Inside is a massive 500GB hard drive and one stick of 4GB DDR4 RAM. The RAM can be expanded up to 16 GB with an additional slot.

Instead of a simple integrated video chip, the laptop has a discrete Radeon 520 with 2 GB of video memory. Together with a processor that is quite performant for this class, they make it possible to disconnect from work tasks and comfortably play not too demanding games like WOT or Dota 2.

Everything that's needed

Despite the fact that the laptop was released at the end of 2017, it is equipped with a DVD drive. And it looks like frank archaism. Perhaps HP was targeting a specific category of buyers (students without flash drives? Is there a CD player in the car?), but for most people this is unlikely to be useful. Otherwise, the communication set is quite familiar: HDMI, 3 USB ports (two of them are modern USB 3.1), a card reader and a webcam.

Forget about charging

With a gentle load (working with texts at a brightness of 50%), the laptop can work for 10 hours. For a 17-inch laptop, this is a very decent result, most models rarely hold a charge for more than 4 hours. Additional pluses are fast charging, which can charge up to 50% of the battery in a little less than an hour and Windows 10 preinstalled.
