The Asus ROG Strix SCAR Edition GL703GM is one of the brightest (note: not in terms of lighting) and powerful laptops from the Asus Republic of Gamers (or simply ROG) gaming division. The body of the laptop is made of plastic and metal and looks unusually calm for a gaming laptop. On the matte cover there is only a small ornate ROG logo and an oblique longitudinal cutout, and on the base there is a small pattern with a speaker cutout and textured plastic interior trim. If aggressive red and black gaming laptops are already a little boring for you and you want something more simple and elegant, this model will appeal to you.

Traditionally for ROG laptops, this model has an unusual backlight with the Asus Aura Sync synchronization system, which can work in several modes (static monochromatic, pulsating or divided into colour zones). An interesting feature of the keyboard is the unusually easy key travel. Out of habit, this seems like a disadvantage, but after a couple of hours, the understanding comes that it is damn convenient and helps a lot during the game.

The fact is that this modification is included in the special SCAR game line, which is named after the assault rifle of the same name and is aimed at shooter fans. Therefore, the keyboard is not only flexible, but it also has a fast response time and it can correctly handle the simultaneous pressing of any number of keys.

Focus on shooters is also manifested in the quality of the screen. Instead of the usual IPS matrix, here we have a TN-matrix screen with a high refresh rate and high responsiveness. In fast-paced shooters, where any delay is like death, such a decision definitely makes sense. But otherwise, in comparison with IPS matrices, the picture quality here is not the best. Yes, and the viewing angles are traditionally lame.

But in terms of hardware, the GL703GM has a traditional set for the price segment of $ 1500 – 2000. That is, hardware to the maximum without reservations: 12-thread Core i7 of the latest generation, NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1060 video chip with 6 GB of video memory, 16 GB of DDR4 RAM and a bunch of 256 GB SSD and a high-speed 1 TB HDD. The only thing you can dig into is the rather average speed of an SSD drive, which is especially striking against the background of brand new NVMe drives.
