Apacer AST280X is an interesting SSD that combines the modern M.2 form factor with the time-tested SATA interface. This allows the drive to be installed without unnecessary cables, and compatibility with SATA makes it an excellent option for upgrading old laptops and mini PCs. It is particularly relevant for devices that already have an M.2 slot but do not yet support the newer NVMe bus.
Developed on Realtek Platform
The drive is based on the RayMX RM1135 controller, a solution from the subsidiary brand of Realtek, well known for its network and audio chips. It achieves a sequential read speed of up to 520 MB/s and a write speed of 500 MB/s, practically unlocking the potential of the SATA3 interface, with its maximum throughput of about 560 MB/s. Performance with small files reaches 74,000 IOPS.
Data Monitoring and Protection
The controller supports a set of technologies to maintain stable operation of the drive. The S.M.A.R.T. system monitors the SSD's status, the TRIM function cleans up unused data, ECC corrects write errors, and the Intelligent Block Management technology evenly distributes the load between memory cells.
