The processor of the Ryzen 5 Matisse line belongs to the junior 7-nanometer solutions, which were first released by AMD in 2019. Thanks to the support of SMT technology, multithreading is implemented in the model: two instruction streams can be executed on each of the 6 cores, which has a positive effect on the speed and overall efficiency of the CPU. The AMD 3600 OEM processor has a clock speed of 3.6 GHz with automatic overclocking up to 4.2 GHz. In addition, a free multiplier allows you to adjust these values. The "engine" has a total of 35 MB of cache memory (including 32 MB of the third level), is compatible with motherboards with an AM4 socket, and supports DDR4 3200 MHz RAM. The model comes without a cooler and does not provide an integrated video core, so the cooling system for the...CPU and graphics adapter for the assembled computer will have to be purchased separately.

7nm process technology

The release of the new Ryzen 3000 processors stirred up the stagnant waters of the global ocean of processors, in which Intel was lazily swimming, easily dominating AMD. Clear evidence that the pieces on the board have been reversed is the recent Ryzen 5 3600 chip, which belongs to AMD's 7nm Matisse family.

6 cores, 12 threads

The 3600 has six physical cores of the Zen 2 architecture and twelve virtual SMT threads, as well as a little, no small amount, 32 MB of L3 cache. Operating frequencies start at 3.6 and rest at 4.2 GHz with automatic overclocking. Thanks to the unlocked multiplier, its frequency can be raised to the level of the more expensive 3600X or even slightly higher. You can't catch up with much, the overclocking potential of the Matisse line is quite modest, but stable 4.2 — 4.3 GHz for all cores is quite possible to get. Only for this you will need an efficient cooling system (the OEM version does not have a cooler at all) and a good motherboard with a high-quality power supply subsystem. An inexpensive motherboard based on the B450 chipset will not work, ideally you need an overclocker one based on the X570.

The right chip for every task

Now let's make it work. In resource-intensive tasks, the hero of our test is 19% faster than the predecessor Ryzen 5 2600 and comes close to the Ryzen 7 2700X. In games, the novelty is faster than its predecessors by 25% and 17%, respectively. That is, the third generation Ryzen can be safely called gaming processors, this time the traditional lag behind Intel has been reduced to a minimum and is leveled by a performant graphics card. But when working with professional software, he puts the Core i5-9600K on the blades, often opening from it by more than 30 percent. In general, we have an perfect candidate for an optimal PC for games, studies, work and any task that does not require super-processors with 20 cores.
