The Chinese company Xiaomi is constantly expanding its product line, occupying new niches. In addition to popular smartphones, external batteries and fitness trackers, its model range also includes smart scales, a segway and even a bicycle. At the end of May 2016, they were joined by the first drone — Xiaomi Mi Drone.

Demountable design

In terms of weight, size and appearance, the drone resembles the Phantom series from DJI. Actually, he is called upon to compete with her, attracting the attention of the public with a democratic price tag. The copter has a collapsible design, which greatly simplifies its transportation. Instead of a bulky suitcase, like competitors in the class, it can easily fit into a small backpack.

Flight characteristics

25 mm propellers at maximum engine speed can accelerate the gadget up to 65 km/h. But the claimed ceiling of the copter's ascent is not encouraging — it is only 120 m. However, each new firmware increases the chances of changing the level of the maximum climbed height upwards. The quadcopter is able to fly to pre-set points, follow the object of filming or around it. On a single charge of a battery with a capacity of 5100 mAh, it can hang in the air for about 27 minutes.

Video capabilities

Photo and video shooting from the drone is carried out using a 12.4-megapixel camera manufactured by Sony. It is mounted on a 3-axis gimbal, which is responsible for stabilizing the picture, as well as turning the camcorder around its own axis by 360°. The camera records videos in resolutions up to 4K (3840x2160 pixels) at up to 30 fps. In its field of view, it captures 94 ° of space in front of itself, which in 35 mm equivalent corresponds to a focal length of 20 mm. The module's maximum open aperture is f/2.8.

It is very easy to distinguish between both models: the older one has a gold edging on the body, and red on the side of the younger one.
