Noticeable upgrade

The 55-inch 4K TV is in the mid-range of Sony's 2020 lineup. It is a direct successor of the Sony KD-55XG8505 model, but with major changes in its background. So, the main differences include support for the Dolby Vision HDR standard and AirPlay 2 wireless technology, an increase in the matrix refresh rate to 120 Hz and the presence of an HDMI 2.1 port, through which 4K video transmission at 120 fps will be possible.

Externally, the Sony KD-55XH9096 has not changed much compared to its predecessor, only its legs are spaced wider, which means that you will need a slightly larger cabinet (if you do not plan to fix it on the wall).

Any content is great

The TV seems to be a great solution for playing almost any content. Solid peak brightness helps to cope with glare from the sun or lighting fixtures, as well as bring out the full benefits of HDR content. The powerful X1 processor scales less detailed video well. The picture has a high contrast ratio, and even more natural dark shades are provided by a well-implemented local dimming function.

By default, the Sony KD-55XH9096 is characterized by accurate colour reproduction: only avid perfectionists will need additional adjustments. And the shortcomings of the image include perhaps not the widest viewing angles, but overall visibility is better than, for example, the Samsung QE-55Q77TA.

Any area of use

In addition to a convincing display of TV shows, movies and sports, the TV also “feels good” in gaming application scenarios. Action-packed shooter and racing scenes are played smoothly thanks to high frame rates. Gamers will also be pleased with the low input lag.

A host of other multimedia entertainment offers a smart Android TV platform with a rich assortment of online cinemas and streaming services. You can control the operation of the TV both from the remote control and by voice, interacting, among other things, with the Google Assistant or Amazon Alexa voice assistants.

Sony KD-55XH9096 is one of the most interesting TVs in its price segment.
