TV that never disappoints
It is unlikely that the Sony KD-55XG9505 will be able to disappoint even a very demanding person. Regardless of light levels, this near-flagship panel delivers true-to-life colour reproduction (thanks to CalMAN's automatic calibration), and colour uniformity doesn't change with ambient light and backlight brightness. High contrast is enhanced by full local dimming, so that the picture is believable in a dark room. In terms of contrast and black depth, it came pretty close to the LG C9 and Samsung Q90R QLED OLED models, but the price tags are much higher there.
Flexible black colour adjustment
Unlike the updated 2020 model, there remains a flexible black adjustment, and the matrix itself has higher brightness and contrast ratios. Thanks to this, HDR content looks more alive on it. Actually, that's why we recommend the 2019 model over the newer one. Returning to the issue of HDR, the TV is friends not only with the classic (HDR10 version), but also with the more fashionable Dolby Vision. In other pluses of the matrix, we write down the reduced input lag, high refresh rate (120 Hz) and the Sony X1 Ultimate processor with a pack of proprietary X-Motion Clarity enhancers. The only thing is that with such a pricing policy, Sony could not be clamped down and add the X-Wide Angle feature to smaller models. According to the strange logic of the Japanese, wide viewing angles are needed only in models from 75".
Improved remote control
In general, in comparison with the 2018 model range, Sony has improved a lot. The new remote control is, although not a revolution, but a clear step forward compared to its predecessors. It’s a pity that the backlight of the remote control was added only in the 2020 model. The sound has become better, more volume has appeared, although bass is not enough for such a compact system as usual. The software shell has been slightly finished: the Action menu has finally disappeared, and all the important information is now on the panel below, like in Samsung and LG. When setting up the TV, the ability to make shortcuts for quick access to some specific picture settings was very useful. As for the design, there is no change at all, try putting it next to the Sony XF9 predecessor, and then try to find three differences. We found only one, the legs no longer spin in different directions.
