Rode VIDEOMIC-R On-Camera Microphone with Rycote Lyre Shock Mount

The RØDE VideoMic is a professional grade 1/2" condenser shotgun microphone designed for use with consumer video camer... moreas and personal audio recorders. The integrated Rycote® Lyre® based shock mounting system isolates the VideoMic capsule and electronics from its all-metal shoe mount, providing isolation from external physical factors that may cause unwanted rumble and vibrations in the microphone. Constructed from a single piece of hard-wearing thermoplastic, the Lyre® provides superior acoustic suspension to traditional elastic solutions, and will never wear out, sag or snap. Its standard sized shoe mount also includes a 3/8" thread in the base for easy mounting on a boom pole or stand.By employing a super-cardioid polar pattern the VideoMic becomes highly directional, focusing on the subject in front of the camera, and minimising any surrounding sounds. In addition to the microphone's native 40Hz-20kHz response a selectable high-pass filter at 80Hz is available, which will prevent low end noise such as air conditioners and traffic from being recorded.A -10dB and -20dB level attenuation (or PAD), selectable from inside the battery compartment, allows recording of loud sound sources, such as live music or motorsport. The RØDE VideoMic directional on-camera microphone is designed in Australia and covered by RØDE Microphones' industry leading 10 year warranty.RØDE VideoMic Specifications:Acoustic Principle: Line GradientActive Electronics: JFET impedance converterCapsule: 0.50"Polar Pattern: Super-CardioidAddress Type: EndFrequency Range: 40 Hz - 20 kHz (selected HPF @ 0)Output Impedance: 200 OhmsMaximum SPL: 134dB SPL (@ 1 kHz, 1% THD into 1 kOhm load)Sensitivity: -38.0dB re 1 Volt/Pascal (12.60mV@ 94 dB SPL) +/- 2 dB @ 1 kHzEquivalent Noise Level (A-weighted): 20dB-APower Options: 9V BatteryWeight: 176.00gmDimensions (HxWxD): 65.00 x 102.00 x 250.00mmOutput: Mini-jack OutputManufacturer's Warranty: 1 year with free extension to 10 years following registration through RØDE Rode VIDEOMIC-R On-Camera Microphone with Rycote Lyre Shock Mount.

The Australian company Rode produces microphones, accessories and audio software. Products are known all over the world, thanks to a pleasant combination of quality and price. Lavalier lavalier microphone costs $250. Let's see why the manufacturer asks for such a considerable amount.

Design and equipment

The 12x5x5 mm stainless steel electret microphone weighing only 1g is protected by a waterproof foam pop filter and a fur cap. The device is fixed on clothing with a neat clip, and a detachable shielded cable with a length of 1.2 m provides compact carrying in a complete plastic case and guarantees trouble-free operation. The cable is equipped with a proprietary MiCon connector, which involves connecting any adapter(one of your choice is included in the kit, the rest can be purchased). This means that the microphone can be connected to any device, including mixing consoles, and wireless systems.

Working with sound

With -34dB sensitivity, Lavalier records clear sound with low noise levels. It handles well with quiet or, conversely, very loud sources, so it is successfully used where you need high sound quality and compactness — on stage, in a TV studio, large-scale outdoor events.

Rode Lavalier certainly deserves praise. It is versatile, well protected, ergonomic and definitely knows how to work with sound. The model is certainly interesting, and it is unlikely that Sennheiser, Beyerdynamic or Audio-Technica can find such a rich package bundle in the same price category.
