The American company Polaroid, which made a name for itself on instant cameras, decided to try its hand at creating volumetric drawings and, frankly, the start in a new field was successful. But let's not get ahead of ourselves and dwell on all the features of the Polaroid PLAY pen in more detail.
Drawing with plastic thread
Instead of ink, the 3D pen is refilled with a plastic filament with a diameter of 1.75 mm, which melts when the tip is heated. Plastic is made suitable for drawing 3D objects on hard surfaces and just in the air. You can even draw on the screen of your smartphone, after laying a protective glass on it and running the Polaroid Trace App with an abundance of stencils to create simple and complex 3D shapes.
Automation
The pen works simply — on its plump side there are only a few keys, the purpose of which can be understood on an intuitive level. A pair of mechanical switches performs the function of adjusting the PLA filament feed rate, and another button provides manual and automatic plastic feed. After 10 min. idle (with active power supply), the pen returns the entered thread automatically.
Equipment
In addition to the handle itself, the model package includes a stand for its vertical parking, a power cable with a USB connector and 4 skeins of plastic threads of green, red, black and transparent colours. Additionally, you can purchase a set of 20 skeins of different colours (5 m each), which includes 4 fluorescent plastic threads. With it, the flight of creative fantasies becomes almost limitless, and besides, such a number of consumables will be enough for a long period of time.
