One of the most affordable high-speed wireless routers (routers) of the AX1800 class with Wi-Fi 6 support and four external antennas. Positioned as a product of the middle price category, designed to connect a 1/2/3-room apartment, a small private house or a small office (up to three PCs) to a global network via a Gigabit Ethernet cable WAN line with a bandwidth of up to 1 Gbps. The Mercusys MR70X wireless router is capable of operating simultaneously in two bands: 2.4 and 5 GHz. Thanks to Beamforming technology, it can dynamically change the antenna pattern and redistribute the signal in the direction of the served devices, which improves the working conditions of clients and increases the data transfer rate. The router is equipped with 3 GbE LAN ports for organizing a small local network...and four external antennas with a gain of 5 dBi for high-speed data transfer using MU-MIMO 2x2 technology (the maximum theoretical speed in the 2.4 GHz band is 576 Mbps, at 5 .0 GHz — 1201 Mbps). The hardware basis of this model is a performant dual-core ARM processor Mediatek 7621. It can be configured only via the web interface with a cable connection. Easily handles UltraHD/4K resolution IPTV routing, cloud services, VPN connections, and heavy load from file-sharing clients.

A gigabit router with Wi-Fi 6 support does not have to be sky-high. A striking example of this is the budget model of the Mercusys MR70X wireless router.

Remarkable design

From one of the most affordable devices in the class, it would be logical to expect savings on small things. However, the router looks much more expensive than it actually costs. In the design of the upper platform of the case of the model, smooth glossy panels alternate with a matte pattern. Protruding "horns" of four antennas are dispersed around the circumference of the body with the ability to adjust the direction and angle of inclination.

Speed characteristics

In the 2.4 GHz band, the declared speed of the Mercusys MR70X reaches 574 Mbps, and on the carrier frequency of 5 GHz - 1201 Mbps. The router is connected to the global network via a gigabit WAN connector. To deploy a local wired network, the model provides for three LAN ports with a bandwidth of up to 1 Gbps. The hardware basis of the router is a dual-core ARM processor Mediatek 7621. The router is configured only through the web interface with a cable connection.

Stable work

Simultaneous operation of clients connected to the router is facilitated by OFDMA and MU-MIMO technologies. The model also uses Beamforming technology, which is aimed at dynamic redistribution of the signal in the direction of the devices being served. The router confidently handles IPTV traffic routing, prioritizes traffic, runs cloud services and VPN connections. And most importantly, the model costs an order of magnitude cheaper than peers with Wi-Fi 6 support. The only thing it lacks is the “ears” in the case for wall mounting.
