Super small cordless saw with chain
The Makita DUC254Z saw is positioned by the manufacturer as a tool for professional arborists - specialists in pruning trees and shrubs. But, of course, no one is stopping you from using it to perform other tasks, such as cutting firewood or adjusting wooden planks while working on a construction site. The main advantages of this model are its compact dimensions (256x185x190 mm) and low weight (only 2.8 kg excluding battery). Although the tire is short (250 mm), its length is enough for gardening, sawing branches, poles, construction timber and not very thick logs.
Many original solutions
The “heart” of the tool is the original brushless motor with an external rotor. Despite its compact size, it is far from low-power (the manufacturer claims an output power of 570 W). The motor has electronic modules that provide overload protection and smooth chain acceleration (an important feature if you are working on a tree or roof and want the saw to start without sudden jerks). It is important to note that this saw has a very high chain speed - 24 m/s (in addition, the speed can be controlled by changing the force of pressing the start key). You also cannot ignore the Torque Boost torque increasing function: if the work is “tight” (for example, a thick branch or hard tree is encountered), then by long pressing the tool’s power button, you can activate Torque Boost to overcome the increased resistance of the wood. Naturally, operating in increased torque mode drains the juice from the battery faster. But at the same time, Torque Boost allows you to do work that many other cordless saws would not be able to do.
A cordless saw is better than a gasoline saw
Makita DUC254Z comes in the form of a "carcass" - without batteries and chargers (only a plastic cover for the tire is included in the kit). The manufacturer recommends buying and using a 5 Ah battery - when cutting cedar branches with a diameter of 50 mm, it will allow you to make 160 cuts on one charge.
Comparing this saw with the Makita DCS230T 22cc chainsaw, which has similar dimensions, weight and characteristics, Makita notes that the cordless model has 15% higher sawing performance (and in Torque Boost mode - almost 50%) compared to the gasoline model . It seems to us that this is a strong argument in favor of modern cordless tools, which clearly shows how effective and profitable they have become today.
