Which is better: wet or dry heating element in a water heater?Learning the design features, pros and cons of "wet" and "dry" heating elements in water heaters

Detailed FAQ on storage water heatersWe answer the most common questions regarding the installation and operation of storage water heaters
Model overview based on user reviews
The Gorenje GBFU E water heater has received mixed reviews from users. While some appreciate its quick heating capabilities and economical dry heating elements, many have reported significant issues with durability. A common complaint is that the tank leaks after a short period of use, often within a few months to a couple of years, despite the advertised 7-year warranty. Users have expressed frustration with the warranty conditions, which require regular maintenance by authorized service centers, adding to the cost. Some have experienced problems with the magnesium anode wear detection system and thermometer accuracy. Although the product is praised for its design and compactness, the frequent leaks and poor customer service have led many to advise against purchasing this model.

A child was born and the issue of uninterrupted water supply became especially acute. Utilities turn on and off the centralized supply when they please, and this, of course, does not suit us. I decided to take an electric water heater with a margin, liters per hundred. The large volume of the tank allows you not to shake over every drop of hot water. Enough for bathing, showering, laundry and other household and kitchen needs. It can heat up to a decent 75 degrees and after mixing with cold water, 100 liters turn into more than two hundred. Good tank protection against corrosion. Inside, it is covered with a high-quality glass-ceramic coating and additionally protected electrochemically by a sacrificial magnesium anode. Able to signal the wear of the magnesium anode. A useful feature, because otherwise it is impossible to understand what is happening with this anode and in what state it is. Of course, you can follow the instructions and disassemble the boiler annually, but no one among my friends does this. Clean and change the anode a maximum of once every two years. Useful and profitable ECO-mode. When activated, the water heats up to a maximum of 50-55 degrees, which is beneficial both in terms of heat loss and to reduce the formation of scale. Scale in it, thanks to the so-called dry heating elements, forms very little. Water constantly dripping from the safety valve. In order to get rid of this, I installed a special expansion tank. Helped. |
I BOUGHT IT IN 12,2009, INSTALLED IT IN 01,2010, AND HAVE BEEN USING IT EVERY DAY SINCE 03,2010 ALL YEAR ROUND ON MAXIMUM, AND ON 20,07,2012, IT STARTED LEAKING. THE SERVICE CENTER CAME 3 DAYS AFTER MY REQUEST, ARRIVING 4 HOURS LATE FROM THE TIME THEY HAD SET. AS A RESULT, THERE WAS A FUSS AT WORK ABOUT ME BEING AWAY FOR A LONG TIME. IT GOT EVEN BETTER. AFTER REMOVING THE BOX, HE FIDDLED AROUND WITH IT AND TURNED TO ME SAYING, "THE TANK IS DONE FOR." I SAID, "THERE'S A WARRANTY, RIGHT?" AND HE SAYS, "DID YOU DO PRO. MAINTENANCE EVERY 1.5 YEARS?" I SAY NO. AND WHO EVEN TOLD ME ABOUT THIS, GOSH. HE SAYS "WELL THEN, SAVE UP CASH FOR A NEW ONE, 135 UAH PLEASE, AND GOOD LUCK, I'M OFF." WHAT WAS THE 135 UAH FOR? FOR JUST FIDDLING WITH IT, AND IN THE END, I ENDED UP COSTING MYSELF AT LEAST ANOTHER 200 USD, NOT COUNTING THE FACT THAT I BOUGHT THE ONE THAT STOPPED WORKING. THE GUY EVEN SAID THAT EVEN IF YOU DO PRO. MAINTENANCE, IT STILL WOULD HAVE LEAKED. I DON'T KNOW WHAT ADVICE TO GIVE, IT WORKED SOLIDLY FOR ALMOST 2.5 YEARS, BUT NOW IT FEELS LIKE IT'S NOT MUCH TIME AND NOW I HAVE PROBLEMS. IT'S NOT EVEN ABOUT THE MONEY; WHEN I BOUGHT IT, I THOUGHT GORENJE WAS THE BEST, AND NOW I'M SITTING HERE IN THE SUMMER WITHOUT HOT WATER, AND THERE'S ALL THIS HASSLE OF CHOOSING, BUYING, INSTALLING, ETC. I HUNG THE BROKEN BOILER WHEN I DID RENOVATIONS TO FIT EVERYTHING UNDER IT, AND NOW WHAT? EITHER GET THE SAME ONE OR SIT AND PICK ONE THAT FITS BY SIZE. IN SHORT, IT'S A MESS. JUDGING BY REVIEWS I CAN CONSIDER THE WORK PERIOD 01,2010-07,2012 LEAKED DAMN. |
DO NOT BUY under any circumstances!!! After six months of use, it started leaking near the heater, and soon the tank itself leaked (flooded my neighbors)! As explained in the service center, this is their standard problem (a factory defect for everyone)! Despite the fact that the tank has a 7-year warranty!!!, and the sleeve of the heater has a 3-year warranty! Everything corrodes perfectly, while the magnesium anode, designed to preserve the tank and supposed to degrade first, remains like new! After the warranty repair, there's no guarantee that it won't happen again (it's likely to happen again in six months - this is their unresolvable design flaw). P.S. I don't want to flood my neighbors anymore, Gorenje GBFU 80 E went to scrap, where it belongs!!! 2kW heaters, BUT ... LEAKS AFTER A FEW MONTHS OF USE!!! |
