The Edimax BR-6476AC is a dual-band, Wi-Fi 5-compliant, and quad-antenna wireless router (colloquially, a router) with enough functionality and coverage for a multi-room apartment or small office. It is made of elegant-looking black glossy plastic, which allows you to install it even in plain sight, in the most convenient place, it will definitely not spoil the interior. In addition to the router function, Edimax BR-6476AC can operate as an access point, Wi-Fi coverage extender (repeater) and WISP client.
Internet over the air
Wireless communication Edimax BR-6476AC is dual-band: 2.4 and 5 GHz with a total theoretical speed of 1200 Mbps (equal to the Wi-Fi 5 standard). The first frequency refers to the inefficient Wi-Fi 802.11B, G and N standards with a maximum speed of up to 300 Mbps. In the 5-GHz range, which is more unloaded from all kinds of household appliances, only Wi-Fi 802.11N and AC devices work. The latter is capable of transmitting data at a theoretical speed of up to 867 Mbps. In fact, due to the peculiarities of the Wi-Fi technology (repeating and encryption), we get only about 250 Mbps.
Wires are still held in high esteem
Wired Edimax BR-6476AC is represented by five 100-megabit Ethernet ports: one WAN for connecting an ISP cable and four LANs for connecting, for example, a desktop PC, game console and NAS storage. Ping over the wire is still lower than even over the fastest Wi-Fi.
No overpayments
Why are the Ethernet ports of the Edimax BR-6476AC theoretically slower than Wi-Fi? It's simple: each device connected to the LAN ports receives an honest 100 Mbps, while the total 250 Mbps Wi-Fi is divided among all wireless devices, which can be a dozen. And the speed of most Internet providers still does not exceed the "hundred". But if you are still lucky enough to bring the much-desired gigabit Internet to your home or office, take a closer look at the slightly more expensive Edimax BR-6478AC V3 Wi-Fi 5 router or the flagship Edimax RG21S in general with a theoretical speed of 2600 Mbps.
