Wireless Lawn Mowing Robot
While most manufacturers continue to use boundary wires for navigation, Dreame has chosen a different approach. Drawing on their successful use of laser technologies in robot vacuums, they developed the Dreame A1 lawn mower, which doesn't require cable installation or external beacons. Navigation is achieved through OmniSense technology, based on a wide-angle LiDAR laser sensor with a 360° horizontal and 59° vertical viewing angle, with a range of up to 70 meters. Complemented by AI-driven algorithms, the system allows the device to accurately determine its position and recognize objects in the area—from trees to garden furniture—with a precision of up to 1 cm.
Initial Launch and Subsequent Actions of the Dreame Lawn Mower
During the first launch, the user controls the robot using a virtual joystick in the app, guiding it along the lawn's boundaries like an RC model. During this "training," the lawn mower scans the territory with the LiDAR sensor and creates a three-dimensional model of the area, which is converted into a 2D map for future work. Using the Dreamehome app, you can divide the area into separate zones with individual parameters, set no-go zones (e.g., near a pool), plan routes between zones, adjust the work schedule and cutting height (from 30 to 70 mm), and make other adjustments to the device's operating parameters.
Almost Perfect Robot, But With Some Nuances
The lawn mower is powered by a built-in 5 Ah lithium-ion battery, which lasts for about 55 minutes of autonomous operation. Depending on the mode (normal or accelerated), the robot moves at a speed of 0.35 to 0.6 m/s and can cover 120 to 200 m² per hour, and up to 1000 m² per day. It confidently handles irregularities up to 4 cm and slopes of up to 45% (24°), but may struggle with maneuvering on wet or loose soil due to reduced traction. Equipped with rainfall and temperature sensors, the robot can "decide" to postpone mowing in case of rain or frost (if the temperature is below 6 °C). The device is also distinguished by its low noise levels and high water resistance class of IPX6, allowing it to be safely washed with a water hose.
The Dreame A1 is an excellent solution for property owners with up to 2000 m², who want to avoid laying boundary wires. The model combines precise navigation, extensive customization options, and autonomy, making lawn care as simple and comfortable as possible.
