Affordable power supply with 85% efficiency
EON is a new line of budget power supplies introduced by Taiwanese manufacturer Chieftec in late 2023. In terms of price and technical characteristics, it is similar to the popular Chieftec Value series models: in particular, it uses a similar hardware platform with a basic input filter, APFC module, group voltage stabilization and basic protection against overvoltage, overcurrent and short circuit. The passport characteristics are also close: ATX form factor, 80+ certificate, efficiency of about 85%, but the cables are not detachable.
Modern design
The main changes compared to its predecessors concern the design and power supply connection scheme. The black power supply with a neat grille and the EON logo looks quite solid, reminiscent of more expensive models. It can be installed in a case with a viewing window and backlighting without fear that it will spoil the appearance. In addition, additional ATX12V connectors have been added. However, there is no support for ATX 3.0, as the manufacturer believes that the power supply will not be used with high-performance video cards such as the GeForce RTX 4080.
Affordable alternative to Chieftec Polaris and Chieftec Core
As a result, Chieftec presented an interesting and modern update of the outdated series, corresponding to all current standards. This power supply can be a great option for budget gamers who do not see the point in overpaying for Japanese capacitors, a gold quality certificate or a higher efficiency of Chieftec Polaris and Core power supplies. The only thing to consider is that with a constant load of 100%, the EON transformer can overheat, and the fan will start to make noise. If you do not load it above 50-60%, the fan will work absolutely silently.
