It is positioned as a model of the highest price category, designed for acoustic design at home, office, home theater.
The Bang&Olufsen BeoPlay A9 audio system (3rd generation) is equipped with a complex system of seven active acoustic radiators with a total power of 320 watts. Moreover, each of the speakers receives a signal from a separate high-tech D-class digital amplifier. Built-in wireless interfaces provide popular streaming services Spotify, TuneIn, Airplay 2. In addition, DLNA technology is supported for accessing content located on a computer or NAS server, and there is full support for Chromecast technology. There is a touch control panel and customization using a proprietary application. There is a USB port for connecting drives and an AUX IN connector.
The audio system of the Danish company Bang & Olufsen BeoPlay A9 can be safely attributed to the big leagues. In addition to chic sound, it impresses with a futuristic design and top-end technical characteristics.
Image design
Externally, BeoPlay A9 looks like a satellite dish. It has an impressive size of 701x701x213 mm and a weight of 14 kg, it can be wall-mounted with a bracket, or mounted on three wooden legs. The body is made of plastic with a metal finish. The speakers are covered in a luxurious woolen case, which can be white, black, silver, red, green, brown or grey. Such an abundance of options allows you to perfectly fit the plate into any interior.
Perfect sound and imperfect settings
The system is equipped with as many as 7 speakers: 2 tweeters, 2 midrange, 2 full-range and 1 woofer, which work flawlessly over the entire frequency range of 33 – 23,000 Hz. The sound is clear, juicy and powerful, just a delight for an audiophile, and the total power, according to the manufacturer, allows you to shake a room up to 100 m².
Against the background of all of the above, management let us down. No, of course, BeoPlay A9, like all similar systems, is controlled from a smartphone, but the implementation of physical buttons leaves much to be desired. The touch-sensitive volume control strip and the off button are located on the back on the top edge, and to pause playback, you need to touch the centre of the plate. Original, but not very convenient, given the concave shape. A remote control would have been useful here, but the manufacturer did not bother with this issue.
But he equipped the system with a full set of wired and wireless interfaces. BeoPlay A9 can receive a signal from a Wi-Fi network via AirPlay 2, via a mini-Jack connector, supports Multi-room DLNA with Chromecast, Bluetooth 4.2., Ethernet, playback of audio files from flash drives and USB charging. There is even a sound mode switch depending on the location of the system: in the corner, in the centre of the room or on the wall.
Is it worth paying almost $3,000 for all this? Fans of boutique items will surely answer in the affirmative. For we personally did not find another justification for such a high price of Bang & Olufsen BeoPlay A9, even despite all its advantages.
