In October 2023, the Taiwanese manufacturer Asus introduced a new line of universal Prime power supplies, which will complement the lineup of the Asus ROG and Asus TUF series. The manufacturer indicates that they are designed for those who want to build an advanced gaming system, but are not ready to overpay for elite high-power power supplies. At the launch, the Prime Gold series included models with a power of 750 and 850 W, which fully comply with ATX 3.0 power specifications, are friendly with PCI-E 5.0 class video cards, and also have a completely modular design for connecting power cables.

Thanks to the latter factor, the user will be able to disconnect all unused cable “noodles” so that they do not create a mess inside the case and do not spoil the view that opens through the transparent viewing window. An important advantage of Asus Prime Gold is its efficiency, confirmed by 80+ Gold certification. This means that the power supply efficiently uses incoming electricity (92% efficiency) rather than simply burning it, and at peak load it is not as noisy as power supplies with White, Silver and Bronze quality certificates.

The device is certified according to the ATX 3.0 standard and is compatible with video cards and is equipped with 12+4-pin 12VHPWR power connectors. In particular, we are talking about the GeForce RTX 4000 series GPUs, the power consumption of which can be an incredible 600 W. The ASUS ROG Strix 850W is based on the Seasonic platform with large radiators for cooling power elements, heat-resistant Japanese capacitors and a proprietary 135-mm Axial-tech turntable on a rolling bearing.

The maximum load on a 12-volt line is 846 watts. Finally, it should be noted that there is an unusual approach to design - two sides of the case are painted white, and two sides are painted black. Thanks to this, the user will be able to rotate it in the desired direction to highlight the color of the case, the installed motherboard and the cooling system. To attract more attention, the manufacturer has extended the warranty period to 8 years, although for the “gold” standard the norm is 5 years of warranty. Unlike the Asus ROG series power supply, there is no backlighting. But there are all protective mechanisms on board, including protection against overvoltage, overcurrent and short circuit.
