Model overview based on user reviews
The Acer Nitro 5 AN515-54 is a powerful gaming laptop praised for its smooth performance and efficient cooling system. Users appreciate its ability to handle high-end games on ultra settings, with the graphics card and processor maintaining optimal temperatures. The laptop features four cooler operation modes, which automatically adjust based on load, though it can get noisy during heavy gaming sessions. The keyboard backlighting and matte, high-contrast screen are well-received. However, some users note the absence of a card reader and a cable for an additional hard drive. Battery life is considered short by some, but overall, the laptop is deemed a great choice for both gaming and programming, offering excellent value for its price range.
Pros
Cons
I bought it with the future in mind, the laptop is reasonably powerful. I really liked the screen, it's matte and very high contrast. Missing a card reader, and there is no cable to connect the hard drive, although there is space for it. |
I got this as my main ride for programming. Why did I choose a gaming laptop for that? Because in my small town, powerful laptops are only gaming ones, and this was the best one on display :) I immediately wiped Windows and installed Linux Ubuntu. My old Pentium 997 and i5 - it's just night and day - projects started compiling in 30 seconds instead of 5-6 minutes. I get that there's nothing surprising here, but for me, someone who's only seen Pentiums and Celerons, this laptop is a dream) After a month of using Ubuntu, I ordered 2 RAM sticks with 16GB each and replaced the existing 8GB ones. Now with the maximum RAM, there are no limits. Of course, I'd love an i9-9900k, but I'd probably be out of my mind)) A week ago, I switched to Linux Deepin instead of Ubuntu. All's well. Powerful, fast, cool keyboard backlighting Lack of a card reader for a microSD adapter and, it seems to me, the battery life is short. use Acer Nitro 5 AN515-54 few months |
Worked on the laptop for more than 2 weeks already. All games were tested on Ultra settings. With maximum parameters. Impressions: In general, a laptop with this configuration is just a dream. For this kind of money, I could only find similar parameters in models by MSI. But the seller didn't have them in stock at the time, and I would have had to wait for deliveries until after the new year + they didn't have a Russian keyboard layout, so I would have had to order engraving for an additional 400 UAH, so I decided to choose this model. Under normal and moderate load (browser open and a virtual machine running with Windows 7), you can barely hear it working. But if you load it with top-end games (like from 2019, such as Metro Exodus), it will be quite loud. You won't notice this noise with headphones, but playing powerful games without headphones will be uncomfortable. Tested the following games on it: Frostpunk, Metro Exodus, Dota 2, CS:GO, Beholder 2, the latest Civilization from 2019. The performance is really good. Metro Exodus runs on ultra without any noticeable lags, even though a friend’s computer with a 2 GB video card doesn't even load the game map. There were no freezes in the game itself. Although for some reason, the FPS dropped during the introductory video. At first, it was unusual for me to play with such quality (before that, I had a Samsung, which I bought 7 years ago). Then I did set the settings lower, to medium, so as not to load it too much. The image has become even smoother. In this game, the graphics card heated up to a maximum of 70 degrees. The processor around the same. The other games, I don't even think are worth discussing. Everything runs smoothly. There are 4 cooler operation modes that adjust automatically. 1) It can be turned off under very light load (absolutely no noise); 2) Low speed (barely audible spinning, if typing, for example, the noise is almost inaudible); 3) High speed (for moderate games). Better to use headphones, or you'll need to max out the volume, otherwise, it will be hard to hear character voices; 4) Turbo boost (or something like that). During heavy loads, it's really uncomfortable without headphones. You'll be listening to buzzing. I’m currently testing how long it lasts without the battery. It has worked for 2 hours without plugging in. 58% remains. It says there are 3.5 hours left. This is while a browser is running (with downloads) and a virtual machine with programming software. In general, I am completely satisfied with the machine. Despite the fact that I didn’t buy it for gaming (though it is a gaming laptop), the only drawback that all gaming laptops generally have – noisy coolers under load, is automatically resolved. If you want something even cooler, then check out the MSI GL65. With the following configuration – i7-9750H/16GB/512 GTX1660Ti 120Hz (GL65 9SD-220XPL). The configuration there is slightly better. 8 gigabytes more RAM. +More ports of various kinds (for example, there is a card reader for SD phone cards, which the reviewed Acer lacks). And it costs a little less. But they say the screen matrix is a bit worse. So the color reproduction will most likely be worse. But if you're not a designer, you probably don't need it. Saving an extra thousand on another 8 gigs of RAM would be really cool. Also, I personally like MSI's design more (although there might be no engraving of Russian letters, as in my case). In general, decide for yourself where and what to buy. By the way, a review regarding the store mobileplanet.ua itself. I was satisfied. When buying, they forgot to give a receipt. I was passing through Odessa from another city. Naturally, I was a bit nervous because, by law, a purchase without a receipt is considered invalid, and if anything happens, I won’t be able to prove anything. I called their office about this, saying I bought a laptop but they forgot to give a receipt, etc. Eventually, they sent the receipt to my city at their own expense. I received it for free via express mail. A good store. It seems they even try to maintain service and politeness during communication. Such a thing is rare in CIS stores, as it seems to me. Thank you for your attention. I hope I helped someone with their choice. |
