Music quest: How to choose speaker system and not missKey criteria for choosing speaker system: what you need to know to buy best speakers for your requirements
Model overview based on user reviews
The Dali Oberon 5 speakers are highly praised for their transparent sound with excellent dynamics and high detail. Users appreciate the articulated and tight bass, which provides a solid foundation for genres like classical rock and jazz. The speakers are noted for their ability to deliver sound without embellishment, focusing on macro details in the upper midrange and offering detailed, balanced high frequencies. While the design is generally well-received, some users mention that the black grill mounts spoil the appearance of the white speakers. The speakers are considered user-friendly for modern living spaces, with minimal placement requirements. Overall, the Dali Oberon 5 is recommended for small spaces, especially when paired with higher-class sources like amplifiers or DACs to unlock their full potential.

Continuing. Of course, comparing them to Edifier makes no sense or logic. The only thing these devices share is their general purpose - they reproduce sound. Therefore, this will be a brief description, an attempt to explain what a "truffle tastes like." As I already mentioned, the low-frequency range is articulated and tight, the bass has a good punch and average depth. I should say that I am not fond of the lowest frequencies, I listen to instrumental music where ultra-low frequencies are extremely rare. In classical rock and jazz, they create a delightful foundation for the composition, the bass is informative, quite high in terms of resolution, and I believe if the amplifier were of a higher class (I use them with a Marantz PM 6006), more could be extracted from them. The speed, positioning, and "size" of instruments in this range are excellent, without domination or spilling into the mid-frequency range. The Sevens are more massive in this regard, the bass has more weight, and I would only recommend them for significantly larger spaces.

The mid frequencies initially seemed like a weak spot in my setup: either the acoustics pushed them slightly into the background, or the amplifier contributed to the sound picture. I figured it out: when the CEntrance DACportable was used as the DAC-preamp instead of the Marantz digital section, which works on the CS4398, with which I have had no luck in portables, the mid-frequency range became somewhat more interesting.

Let's continue. The acoustics provide sound without embellishment, without emphasis on the "presence zone," not trying to impress or create a wow effect, but informatively, clearly, focusing more attention on the macro details in the upper midrange, and with the already mentioned improvements, dynamics have noticeably improved. This once again suggests that the Oberon line responds excellently to higher-class sources, whether it's an amplifier or a DAC, and has significant potential for developing its setup.

The high frequencies are "academic": they are detailed, balanced, with instrument separation, and there are no issues with the sustain of the overtones: the overtones create that very "layering" in this range that's worth paying for. If you experiment with the source, you can achieve an excellent result. For instance, with a DAC from NuPrime, based on the SABRE, it produced truly luxurious highs, and the DAC significantly emphasizes this range, adding a sense of air. In general, you need to choose, knowing what you want.

I recommend the Dali Oberon 5 as a floor-standing acoustic system for small spaces, especially if there is a challenge with system placement.

After 4 years with the Edifier R2700, which I consider the best multimedia speakers available on the market for little money, I decided to try the big sound world for taste. I had some experience with quality sound: I've been avidly sailing the ocean of portable hi-fi for many years, understanding what I ultimately want to get from stereo.

For a long time, I have been using Campfire Audio Andromeda as my main headphones, really enjoying their presentation, balanced sound that's not dullly-monitor-like, with a spark, with "body," and an ideally low frequency range for armature. The best sound for its money, imho. Therefore, I wanted to get the sound with similar characteristics from floor-standing speakers: without distortion, with tight and articulated bass, lively mids, not bodyless, and detailed highs as much as the budget allows.

Moreover, the recently completed renovation set certain limitations: the acoustics had to fit into the interior by 101%. How timely the new budget line from Dali - Oberon was, including both bookshelf speakers and the sought-after floor-standing ones, with various design options suitable for modern interiors, be it Provence, Scandinavian, or high-tech. Particularly beautiful is the wood-effect laminate finish (you wouldn't realize it's laminate until you check the specs), unfortunately, it didn't match my interior, and the choice was made in favor of the pure white version. Among the design drawbacks, it should be mentioned that nobody told Dali engineers that the mounting brackets for the grills could be the same color as the
