Active acoustics YAMAHA DBR-15 has become a symbiosis of the best practices of the popular Japanese brand. The manufacturer has released a logical continuation of the DBR-12 model, equipping it with a more powerful woofer, thereby expanding the lower bass limit.
All for easy installation
The speaker measuring 46x70x38 cm is made of durable plastic, resistant to external influences, and weighs a lot — 19.3 kg. For transportation, there are 2 side handles, and for mounting a mount for suspension and on a rack, however, brackets and bolts will have to be purchased separately, they are not included in the kit. You can also purchase a case with them, which will create additional protection against bumps, drops and dirt.
The speaker is absolutely symmetrical, which allows it to be used as a floor monitor at an angle of 50º, laying it on any of the sides. The speakers are protected by an elegant steel grill covering the entire front. Below it flaunts the Yamaha brand logo, indicating that the speaker system belongs to a popular brand.
Fusion of the best technologies
The DBR-15 reproduces sound in the 50Hz-20kHz range with a 2.1kHz crossover frequency. A powerful 15" ferrite woofer delivers crisp, deep bass with minimal distortion, while a 1.4" compression tweeter with nominal 90 x 60º coverage angles delivers finely focused mids and highs.
Class D amplifier guarantees peak power up to 1000 W and sound pressure level (SPL) up to 132 dB, without loss of clarity and dynamism of the signal. The built-in mixer allows you to mix the signals of 2 channels or pass the signal of only one channel. Channel 1 has a combo XLR/TRS jack for microphone or line connection. Channel 2 has three inputs: XLR/TRS Phone and 2 RCA inputs for a CD player or other stereo line level source. The system supports two equalization modes (Main/Monitor) and two high-pass filter modes with a cutoff from 100 Hz and from 120 Hz.
Separately, it is worth noting the cooling system. Here, it is not the banal air outlets that are responsible for it, but the built-in fans that support 4 speeds. This virtually eliminates overheating and distortion, even with prolonged use at high volume levels.
Summing up, we can safely call the DBR-15 a flagship model. Everything is good in it: from the appearance to the character of the sound. Great option for regular use. The only obstacle to the purchase may be, perhaps, the cost of $650. But, for the most part, it's justified.
