i thought 500 lumens would be too little, but in the evening, even without closing the curtains and projecting onto the wall (without a special screen), it's quite okay. If you use curtains and a special screen, the image is really awesome in terms of brightness and colors. - sound is generally okay - no immediate urge to connect an external speaker - Android - dimensions - tripod mount - The contrast is so-so; black looks slightly gray. It still has to light up at minimal brightness to display black, which causes black bars in films to appear (dunno, maybe it can be fixed in the player or projector settings, but haven't found it yet). - For some reason, on service screens, Android complained that the Wi-Fi had no internet connection, but then everything worked fine. - If the surface it's placed on is unsteady (like a couch), it triggers autofocus (not often, so it doesn't annoy). - The ventilation system produces noise at the level of 30-35 decibels. - It's Android, but not Android TV, although it says Android TV, the main screen is old. - There was an expectation that everything would run smoothly, but it's a bit sluggish. - Another oddity is that it displays the image height at the bottom edge higher than expected, so if you don't flip it or adjust the settings, you have to set it quite low. |
Bought in February 2021. Great replacement for a TV. Installed YouTube, Megogo, HDRezka, HD Videobox. Series and movies feel like in a theater. Also great combined with a PlayStation, especially for parties with friends. The image is on a white wall. No need for a screen just yet. - Image quality up to 3.5 meters wide. If larger, pixels become visible. - Quiet and does not overheat. - Good sound quality for its size (although there is a lack of bass). No need to connect external speakers. - Compact - 30,000-hour lamp lifespan compared to 3,000-5,000 hours in regular projectors. -500 lumens is too low for daytime viewing. Either use dark curtains or watch in the evening. -"Heavy" apps (xbox xcloud and some games from playmarket) sometimes run slowly. |
Is it a projector or portable speaker?
In February 2020, Chinese jacks of all trades from Xiaomi showed a new portable projector Mi Smart Compact Projector, which in design resembled a stylish Bluetooth speaker rather than a classic projector. Like many of the company's products, the novelty tried to captivate buyers with a lot of tricks: here you have an Android-based system with MIUI TV firmware, HDR support, and Wi-Fi for signal transmission via Fastcast (Chinese alternative to Chromecast). Well, do not forget about 3D support, if anyone is still interested.
Difficulties in translation
The reality was not as colorful as in the advertising booklets. In Western forums, many kick Xiaomi for misleading. We are talking about promo shots in which this baby is standing on a bedside table almost in the corner of the room. In fact, it turned out that this projector does not have horizontal keystone correction, only 45 degrees vertically. That is, to display a picture without distortion, he needs to stand exactly in the centre of the screen horizon. In general, it is quite demanding to install. At the same time, we should not forget that we are talking about, in principle, a low-cost model for $500. These are pennies by the standards of Epson and Optoma.
Really juicy picture in Full HD and HDR support
It seems to us that the quality of the image levels out possible problems with the installation. It uses four-channel RGB LEDs with an average brightness of 500 lumens and 85% NTSC colour gamut coverage. Throw in full HD resolution with the already mentioned HDR and you get a great option for a simple home theater. The main thing is to connect it to a normal audio system, the built-in 10-watt speakers play a little better than the small things that are installed in inexpensive laptops.
