How to choose RAM?Tips for choosing the optimal RAM parameters that will ensure stable operation and PC performance
Model overview based on user reviews
The Patriot Memory Viper Steel DDR4 2x8Gb RAM offers a low price point for its advertised high frequencies, making it an attractive option for budget-conscious users. However, many users report that the XMP profiles often do not work as advertised, requiring manual adjustments in the BIOS to achieve stable performance. The memory modules are available with different chip types, such as Hynix and Samsung b-die, which can affect performance and stability. While some users successfully achieve the advertised speeds with manual tweaking, others experience stability issues and crashes, particularly when attempting to reach higher frequencies. The RAM's design is appreciated for its stylish look without flashy lights, but the heatsinks are noted to be more decorative than functional. Overall, this RAM is suitable for those who are comfortable with hardware adjustments and are willing to experiment to achieve optimal performance.

You can take it. I planned to sit on the 3800 frequency, so I’m happy
1 June 2020
Ran at a frequency of 3800 with timings 16-16-16-32 on a RYZEN 3600, motherboard ROG STRIX on the B450 chipset.
Cheapest High Frequency B-die Available
I didn’t take 4000, but other levels didn’t even take their declared 3600
use Patriot Memory PVS416G400C9K less than month
Buy XMP 3200 dies, not XMP 3000.
8 March 2021
I have a plate that wound up at 3000 at 3400 (16-19-19-36) in a single channel, but a plate with the same heatsink but xmp at 3200 wound up at 3800 (18-20-20-40), and this despite the fact that the difference in cost is 100 rubles, now let people go away who shouted to me in their reviewers that the XMP profile does not solve and you can simply overclock it to the level of a more expensive model. By the way, I'm one of those who are ready to dig, so I don't know how you will be with the frequencies.
Aesthetic radiator, I managed to get good frequencies
The fact that I saved 100 rubles and did not buy 2 dice for 3200
Worth taking for non-demanding systems.
6 December 2020
Motherboard b450 pro4, processor ryzen 5 3400g. In slots 1 and 3, the xmp profile did not work, but in slots 2 and 4 everything worked (xmp 3000 cl16). I didn't try overclocking because it was assembled for multimedia and browsing needs, but with the possibility of upgrading for gaming. Pay attention to which slots you insert the memory, it's very important, not the first time I've encountered this.
Low price.

Living Steel

Patriot Viper Steel DDR4 is a series of high-frequency RAM from the American brand, designed in a strict classic style without lighting. It is sold as individual 8 GB modules or dual kits totaling 16 or 32 GB. However, the 8 and 2x16 GB capacities are limited to frequencies of 3000 and 3200 MHz, while higher frequency versions from 3400 to 4400 MHz come in the currently most popular 16 GB kits.

Convenience and Coolness

The cooling heatsinks of Viper Steel DDR4 are made of aluminum, coated with a shiny lacquer imitating gunmetal, and have a low profile. As a result, they do not interfere with the installation of most tower CPU coolers. Given that the highest memory model operates at a frequency of 4400 MHz and a high operating voltage of 1.45 volts, thick-walled metal heatsinks are just right. Under the heatsinks hide the Samsung B-die RAM chips so desired by computer enthusiasts.

All Done for You

The other versions of Viper Steel DDR4 (4133 MHz and below) operate at a moderate voltage of 1.35 V. The most versatile for building a powerful gaming or professional workstation PC is considered to be the 4000 MHz modification. It comes with two factory-embedded XMP automatic setup profiles: 4000 MHz with timings of CL19-19-19-39 for Intel Z370/Z390 motherboards and 3866 MHz for AMD X570. Simply put, the manufacturer has ensured the optimal combination of frequency and timings for the most popular computer platforms.

To Each Their Own

For owners of more mainstream AMD B450 motherboards, paying extra for ultra-high frequency RAM is clearly not worth it - their maximum capability is 3600 MHz. Luckily, dual kits with this frequency are available not only in the Viper Steel series but also in other Patriot memory lines: Viper 4 Blackout and Viper RGB. The latter, by the way, are available with timings of CL17 and CL16 (lower is better).
