Utility knife from Savoy

Opinel is a well-known French company that produces knives, cutlery and garden tools. Initially, the founder of the company produced knives for shepherds, farmers and local winemakers, and later, in the wake of successful sales, he expanded the scope of his products. Currently, the entire OPINEL product range is manufactured in Chambéry (Savoie) from two main types of steel — stainless and carbon. The elegant elongated folding knife OPINEL Effile 12 VRI from the Tradition collection, like all products of the famous French manufacturer, will not appeal to everyone because of the characteristic design with a wooden cylindrical handle. This folder is not very pocket-friendly, but it is good for gardening, butchering fish and skinning carcasses while hunting.

Thin blade for slicing

The narrow blade with a fillet profile and a smooth blade has a length of 120 mm. It is made of Swedish high-carbon Sandvik 12C27 stainless steel with a hardness of 58 HRC containing 14% chromium, which makes the steel resistant to wear. Due to this, the blade does not dull for a long time and provides good cutting quality. The thin blade is great for filleting fish, as well as slicing meats, cheese and vegetables in a makeshift camp kitchen. The round handle, 150 mm long, is made of durable beech wood, which is not afraid of dampness. The blade opens with two hands behind the nail notch, and can be locked in the open and closed position with an improved Virobloc branded lock with a swivel locking clutch. The knife, despite its decent size, turned out to be very light: its weight is only 45 g. The manufacturer also offers the OPINEL 12 VRN knife, similar in geometry and size, with an XC90 carbon steel blade. This model, like all knives of the company, has a lifetime warranty for defects identified during operation.
