Oculus Go 32 GB

The self-contained virtual reality headset, first showcased to the public in late 2017 at the Oculus Connect conference, is a joint development by the ambitious company Xiaomi and the Oculus brand. Therefore, it's not surprising that the production of the VR headset is set up in China.

Distinctiveness

The headset is designed to make virtual reality more accessible, as it doesn't require connection to a computer or smartphone. The device features a LCD screen with a resolution of 2560x1440 pixels and powerful hardware based on the Qualcomm Snapdragon 821 chipset (the same processor is found in flagship smartphones like the LG G6, Google Pixel, etc.). This configuration allows the Oculus Go to play 360° videos and engage in interactive games with a sense of presence. Control of the headset is facilitated by a wireless remote control.

Degrees of Freedom

The model uses spatial audio technology and also offers three-dimensional position tracking. That is, the headset responds to the user's head tilts and allows them to look around, but it doesn't support physical movement through virtual space. This privilege is reserved for the higher-end existing model — the Oculus Rift.

A New Phase in VR Development

Notably, in the local Chinese market, the virtual reality headset model will be presented under the name Mi VR Standalone. As with the global version, users have the choice between two gadget modifications: with built-in storage of 32 GB or 64 GB. Given the reasonable cost of the headset, we can expect a new phase in the development of VR technology, which, thanks to the Oculus Go, has become more distinctive.
